No Toolbars
Sunday, March 26, 2006 by Octane67 | Discussion: WindowBlinds
My problem is in the WindowsBlinds config screen. I do not get a My Toolbars settings.... (and I do not get any toolbars in explorer or IE for any skin) everything else seems to work fine including animations.
Under settings I see:
My Skins
My Animations
Basic Settings
User Overrides
Per Application
According to skin studio the toolbar folders are all there for each WB skin
I can find no documentation on the limits of Windows 2000, nor can I find a detailed history of the updates and what they updated. one would expect to find this kind of data on a pay product. I understand that windows 2000 is old OS now but would be nice to know what is supported and what isn't before I purchased the product.
I am currently running windows 2000 pro sp4 on WindowBlinds 4.60.048 (paid/registered version). I previously had the free version and have removed it. (yes I am poor and I am tring to hold out for MS Vista if it is ever released)
Things I have tried to resolve the issue:
1. competely uninstall all stardock products from SDC. (including all skins)
2. removed all WB and SDC products from add/remove programs in windows.
3. removed all Object Desktop folders from HDD.
4. reinstalled all products through SDC.
5. uninstalled all products and reinstall products individually and test after each install.
6. tried different resolution/color depth combos.
7. locked/unlocked toolbars - add/remove buttons.
8. turned on SDC smart startup
9. enable/disable all setting in Basic Settings field in WB config. (individually one at a time)
Pls help b4 this problem has me reinstalling my OS, and pulling my hair out (whats left of it)

a. loading a new toolbar set
b. rebuilding toolbar list
c. wondering if all the "default icons" showing up are actually those missing that didn't get loaded right or something...... grrr
Hoping by putting this out there someone either knows a trick or can repair the code.

removed shareware version and did reinstall of SDC as per the email instructions I received upon purchase. I believe no toolbars is part of the shareware version... also cant find a version number inside WB's config screen, only find that on SDC.... but no matter when i uninstall WB it removes the skin tab from the display properties.
Downloaded SDC and registered that as I bought the full version ($50) about a month ago.

if you purchased ODNT (the full package) that should be the only serial you would need to register
once you have WB installed again (or if still installed) - open WB configuration - click system information and copy/paste what shows up here

WB5 doesn't work w/ win2k....(XP or higher) sigh... so no toolbars with version 4.60.048 ?Reply #8 Monday, March 27, 2006 10:43 PM
I don't know if it's different when running it on W2K. It's the same download, but maybe it works different on different OS?
Unless somebody technically smart comes along and knows the answer...you might send an email to support and ask.
I never saw anything before that said W2K doesn't get the toolbar options even on earlier versions.

toolbars when downloaded from the gallery should be .wba. should be able to load them the same way - double click.

If i run the toolbar icon,
right clicking on it,
there is a 'about WB' in there it says i have version 4.3 (build 120-NXP)
dunno if that means anything but it does show conflicting versions from what SDC reports....
guess need to know how to remove older versions..... must be caught up somewhere in the registry

WindowBlinds does not support toolbar icon skinning on Windows 2000.
Build 120 is correct for Windows 2000.

but at least Octane67 now knows it's running correctly for the OS.
thanks Neil, I always wondered.

isn't no toolbar option part of the shareware version? never had the shareware, don't know how it looked/worked.
did you register it prior to downloading. i read somewhere SDC will also allow you to download the shareware/trial versions of apps.
