GUI Championships - Participation..

Every two years now for the past 6 years we've done the GUI Championships (formerly GUI Olympics but the US Olympic Committee sent the lawyers after us).
We've tried different types of judging over the years and had different rules. But one of the bummers has been that Stardock people can't participate since, well, we run the thing so obviously you can't have Stardock people participating.
So this time, we are asking you - users, skinners, and everyone else, under what circumstances, if any, could we let people like Mike Bryant (MikeB), Paul Boyer (Mormegil), and other Stardock artists particpiate? I think the contest overall would be better served if they could be in it but we would need to not have Stardock involved in the judging then.
Imagine how much better the contest would be with icons from Paul Boyer? Or skins from Mike Bryant? Not to mention other stuff from other Stardock artists. But we want to do things the way you want them so let us know.

I'm for letting anyone entering the contest. What better way to get some really new and unique skins than to fire up the imaginations of all the talented artists in the community by allowing them to compete against one another. It's true that new competitors will be hard pressed to create the type of skins that the well known skinners can do, but, what an incentive to try...
I'm not sure that just because someone gets paid to create skins makes them a better artist...just means they have an awesome job

Taking a lesson from the Olimpiks (NT's spelling)the Judges do not compete. I see no reason to keep anyone out of competition as long as they do not want to be Judges.
I believe the only other qualification for the judge is the ability to ignore the who and concentrate on the what.
I would suggest that Stardock sets up a category based system with points for as many different aspects of the skins as is reasonable. It would make it much harder to give out scores solely based on personal preference that way.

because of the advances of late, I think you might consider a special category for "transparent" skins. I find them addictive and have yet to revert to the old opaque styles since they have come out

Ok, so it's come one come all. Now get on with finding Judges and sponsors so we can get this thing started. The last one dragged out for months...and then months.

I think that since all those who create these themes, icons, window blinds, visual styles, etc. know a good product when they see one, let them be the judges. It's sort of like baseball players voting for their own peers to be on an All Star Game. Personally, I don't know anything about any of this, so I would make a very poor judge. Let them jude themselves, that way those of us who use the products will get the best that there is. To me, that is only common sense.

If it means getting a new skin from Mike that I wouldn't be getting otherwise..... let the dude in. His skins are my favorite. I want everyone in. I want to see something from KoL and Treetog as well.

-personally I think that it is normal that each judges does not take part in the contest and I think same that the judges should be people who one never made skins !
and I think that the judges should not have any preference for an author or another
-I am against the cathegorie for beginner or confirmed !why ?I do not have any complex and I will not let anybody think that my work is better or worse than another skinner !
of course my work is different but can be it A took more time to do it and with tools which are not the best ! like photoshop against gimp !
-but I put myself the question ! why stardock organize a contest if stardock gain it ?

maybe have them join at a lower level and judge the higher levels ? obviously less experienced skinners may not compete very well against them . or submit lets say their windowblinds 3 and reqiured to bring them up to 5 . heres an even better one !!! "they dont enter" , but instead stardock ,devientart , skins.org and so on. have the staff compete against the staff . so you have 2 contests back to back . 1 for the public and one for the staffers .

Two categories. Advanced and Beginners. It will be great, because of this form the Beginners have an opportunity to win. A form to identify a beginner, verifying that the skin to participate is the first, only of this form the skinner can be called beginner. I hope to participate soon.

to not let these guys in would be a shame. you don't hold a home run contest and sit out your best home run hitter because he leads the league in home runs. this is a competition of the very best of the best, not of the best of everyone other than these guys.
