Some questions about windowblinds and icon packager

this is noobish but oh well...

Thursday, March 9, 2006 by Jaboi | Discussion: New Users

Ok so i have a couple of questions. 1) When I registered here it told me that winCustomize provided WindowBlinds for free. however, when I start it or boot up or close it it says I have 30 days left. is this true? I mean, will it keep running after 30 days?

2) I also downloaded IconPackager and it says the Same thing. Is this true too?

READ THIS!! P.S. I might be getting confused: it might just be iconpack. that says that.

Are you using trial versions of the software or did you buy it?

The "free" version of WindowBlinds 5 is a shareware version that has a 60 day time period.

The trial version of the WindowBlinds program is functional for 60 days. It lets you try the software and see if you want to buy it.

when I start it or boot up or close it it says I have 30 days left. is this true?

I am not sure about the trial version of IconPackager. The popup may refer to the trial version of IP

When I registered here it told me that winCustomize provided WindowBlinds

I am not sure about how the WC registration is worded these days, but WC offers free WindowBlinds skins, not a free WindowBlinds program.

so after 60 days will all my icons and skins A) get deleted and the windows skin reverted or get stuck how they are and i'll never be able to change them again or C) something else that i didn't think of.

also is it iconp. or winblinds that is a 60 day trial or both or niether?

sorry i ask way too many questions...

The programs stop working & you get reverted back to the Windows default skins & icons. The skins & icons stay on your PC in case you decide to purchase the software. I know that WB lasts for 60 days. Don't know about the IP trial version.
The best deal is to purchase Object Desktop, which includes both WB & IP, along with many other goodies & no fee for upgrades for a year. https://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/

is there a freeware program that does the same stuff as IP and WB? with no time limit?

The icons don't change unless you initiate the change. IconPackager is not a program that is always running the background, "skinning" your icons. It simply applies a package when instructed, freeing you from the task of changing them one, by one. Once the trail expires, you no longer have the option of applying packages, but the icons will not revert to default.....

If you decide to buy the programs, listen to aimzzz .... an Object Desktop subscription is the way to go.

a dangerous way is to patch your uxtheme.dll and use third-party visual styles (only winxp) , however it doesn't handle traslucency, toolbars or self shellstyle apply, a bit geeky , the best way is through windowblinds
