What does it take to get a Wallpaper Approved?
Seem Like A Crock
Sunday, February 19, 2006 by P1Guy | Discussion: New Users
All wallpapers are available on Skinbase.org, and one got a nice comment from Andi18.. Oh, well nice to post where others will except your work. One i can see, but 3 up'd and none qualify, whats up? Discourging to say the least.

This is the exact reason I don't upload here!
I will tell you, that some of the Mods are nice people and FAIR!
Hang in there, keep trying, and keeping uploading, WEAR THEM DOWN!!!!

1st version= 40 dl's - 3 comments - 0 fav's
2nd version= 29 -0-0
2a version= 57-0-0
3rd (III) version= 83-3-0
As frustrated as I was, they were right as far as what worked the best as a WP.
I don't know if this helps, probably not...but it helped me to try to be more 'objective' about my work before I uploaded it. I make things I like for me, but as far as sharing them, I do want them to work well enough that they can be shared and are downloaded. Does that make sense??
Anyway...here is the link if you want to look. Personally...the first will always be my fav...but I think it's because I see it differently. I see what I want because I am the only one knowing what I was going for. It took me 6 more try's to get anyone else to see. Well, except for one person at DA who got it. And that's scary. That anyone else can see things the way I do. Granted, I also have stuff there I wouldn't even try to upload here, because I know it would never get through becuase it falls into the same category as 'I'm the only one who gets it."

Cool, it's a tough job being a mod on WC.
As far as wallpaper designing is concerned, I just keep tryin'.
PS. I ain't complaining!

It doesn't matter the quality I upload here, It's ALWAYS rejected. I've recently uploaded a wall on here that has 400+ downloads in a week from the site I am Head Admin of which is skinnalicious.net
And, it was denied. Admin Jafo is cool. Cerebro is cool. The other Admins (if any others) and mods are about 70/30 in favor of being stuck up, only approving what they deem as art and deserve to be fired (even though it's non-profit).
I will not be re-subscribing here after mine's up. Period.
Basically the funny thing is P1Guy. They could all care less if people in general do re-subscribe. You ask me, I think they tick people off intentional just to make us leave

???
umm...hardly a good business ethic!
I have plenty of accepted uploads...my 1 attempt at a wall was shot down...only frustrating thing is not knowing why(hint, hint!)

Personally, I get rejected as much as a subscriber as I did as a visitor.
I don't think wether you are a subscriber or not has anything to do with the decision making. Some of the top authors are non-subscribers.
What are you suggesting? That they accept non-subscriber stuff to get them to subscribe then intentionally piss em off so they won't renew?
I think in the case of wallpapers, it comes down to the volume of submissions they get, especially from poor slobs like me who have yet to master the art fo skinning well enough to do a WB or Theme and submit a plethora of wallpapers.
As an Admin of a site yourself, you must have guidelines you follow. You don't just allow anything and everything for the sake of a subscription, do you? Perhaps some people base there decisions on different standards or more' demanding' standards. As frustrated as I may get over a rejection, most of the time I see why afterwards..or I just suck it up and move on. I have two walls here that I did several versions of before one was accepted. I posted the multiple versions on my DA site and in each case...the version that got approved here was the most downloaded at DA. (And none have been downloaded as much there as here. So I have to wonder where the true art/talent lover's go...lol) That alone speaks for itself.
Finally..I am just a humble lil' artist. I have 2 or 3 works that have an 8 rating, most come in at a 5 or 6..a few 7, a few 4's. Nothing of mine gets downloaded to death like some authors do the first day they upload. I'm very average. In defense of WC and the people here..I have gotten encouraging emails from admin's, advice on improvement in emails, even help when I uploaded incorrectly by email (all of which they don't have to do or take the time to do), but never have I been discouraged. And for someone as average as me, it shocked me even more when someone went out of there way to buy me ODNT, considering I am NOT a top author or as big a contributer. All I have gotten is encouragement. To imply that WC would discourage talent or development of talent just seems wrong to me. Even when they reject soemthing, I don't believe it's with the intention of hoping you'll go away, but that you'll keep trying and improving. The frustrating part is that they don't have the time to tell you 'why', but as an Admin yourself, you should know something about that and understand it.
On the opposite side...here's a link to a thread from someone who thinks there is too much 'junk' getting through moderation...so go figure.Link

I'm suggesting not that they deter people from re-subscribing. But, perhaps deter some of their members from re-subscribing.
I don't doubt some of the mods I've "crashed" with in the past intentionally reject my work to piss me off.
I LOVE WinCustomize. I support WinCustomize in and away from the net. Even at my business where I hand out flyers for them and suggest theme (even though I've said these things)
To also enclude. I Don't get encouragement from any Admins or Mods here. I have had some from Jafo in the very far past and from some members in the past. But, that's it. No reason, no way to improve.
I do follow guidelines but if stuff doesn't pass approval (which is rare) I do send a Non-Automated reason why. Would be impossible at this volume I know. But when they see someone like me irrate. They should care enough to respond.
I think the least they could do is just approve a good wall when they see it. I must speak this generally even though I don't mean it. It's only way to refer to "my situation"
People upload to get stuff approved. Or else, they would not bother.
People get dettered from a site if over 10+ of their works are rejected when those particular people don't design often enough to upload in the "masses"
The walls I make are original and great. Maybe 1/2 are crap but I've seen less be approved. Why I don't know.
Don't mean to "bash" the site as a whole. I still respected Jafo, Cerebro and the community in general. However, certain mods are just out to destroy certain people I feel.

I can tell you this. I have had "clashes" with admin myself. If they were out to get people, I would not be around, I can assure you that.
They are people doing a volunteer job. Outside of a few bootskins in the library that aren't bootskin format ( https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=5307&LibID=32 )
, They do a great job. Even though I might have angered admin in the past, my experiences assure me that NOONE is out to destroy anyone.

Laoran ...if for example, you uploaded a wall/image of Britney Spears running naked through a field of daisies I'm certain you'd get [more than] 400 dls a day. It would, however not be an accepted wall, or an acceptable wall, or, for that matter a 'real' wall, but just an image for kids to ogle.
A walls 'popularity' [or lack of] elsewhere is not a criteria by which works are accepted here.
Were that the case the section would be inundated with photos of some pet doing something silly/cute/terminal....
We don't 'tick people off' as some form of sport....in fact we do not tick them off at all. However, if they choose to feel 'ticked off' over a rejection of their works then they really need to re-evaluate their ideals and life-values.
It's nice that I [and Cerebro] am deemed 'cool', however it's less than nice that my fellow brethren are considered not so. We do the same job....and it's quite rare indeed that I would consider 'pulling rank' and reverse a rejection decision, etc....so either we are all 'cool' or we are all 'not cool'...
The only decisions of what comes or goes that are made that may/do affect Stardock/Wincustomize 'customers' are actually the physical removal of the person, not their works, and almost always those who ARE removed have no 'works'. If the person is a 'current customer' then he is afforded more leeway.....usually removed from commenting/interaction but still able to access site content/downloads. Anything more 'severe' [exile] is determined by Stardock directly as it is a customer issue as well as a site one.
Wincustomize.com values each and every member and his contribution/s - equally.
However, site rules/policy can at times appear to affect some more than others but that is a causal response, not an arbitrary one....

| only approving what they deem as art |
Out of curiosity, how would you like it differently? Would you rather they look at something and say "that's avererage to mediocre" or "that really blows" and then allow them anyway?
I commend this site for having standards.
DA is an awesome site, but you need to put on your knee high kickers (thigh high if you're a woman. Looks better) and wade through 70% of crap before you find a decent anything. Attention to detail and an artistic / innovative mind, coupled with tenacity, are rewarded here. Do people like getting rejected? No. Did I like it? No. But it made me (and is still making me) try to do better and not being satisfied with "acceptance" as a criteria for success as a skinner / artist / hack etc etc.
If the site has a standard (and it does) we should applaud, high five, buy drinks for, pat on the back, and generally thank those who do and not criticize them for it.
...still amazed that they ever allowed anything of mine, but that's a different story.
