Downloading Content From WinCustomize 101

DOWNLOADING CONTENT FROM WINCUSTOMIZE 101
There have been a number of threads posted by beginner’s inquiring as to why they end up with a ".zip" file after downloading content and the subsequent advice on changing the file extension. This is a mini tutorial which illustrates a simple method to download content and keep the original file extension intact.
The images below show the method I recommend for downloading content from the libraries found on WinCustomize. Note – this method will also work for many other sites where the user wants to download files.
STEP #1 – Right-click the download link and select "Save Target as…" (Refer to image below).
STEP #2 – In the Save As dialog, use the "Save as Type:" drop-down list to select "All Files" > now select a location to save the file(s) to, and then click the "Save" button. Note - I have simply created a folder in My Documents named "WinCustomize_Downloads" and use this as a staging area for my downloaded files. (Refer to image below).
The image below shows the files and their extensions for the core skin applying programs in Object Desktop, as well as CursorXP and LogonStudio.
Once you have the files downloaded, you can simply double-click them to install them.
Windows XP hides the extensions for known file types by default, but if you need to work with the extensions for some reason, you can tell Windows to show them by following the steps below.
FILE EXTENSIONS #1 – Click the Start button > select Control Panel > click the Appearance and Themes category, and then click on the "Folder Options" link as indicated in the image below.
FILE EXTENSIONS #2 - Click the View tab > deselect "Hide extensions for known file types", and then click "Apply" as shown in the image below.

Well done. Pictures will really help those who think the cd drive is a cupholder.
Because this is a problem caused by some of the "security" modifications of the SP2 update to XP (specifically Internet Explorer) another solution is to switch over to an alternate browser like FireFox or Opera. However, that may cause other problems such as incompatability with certain websites.
