I don't get your point also, is your beef with the moderators or the people who download(bad word, should be VIEW)your SS?
If its with the moderators, I bet SS's are on the bottom of the list with all the work they have to view and the issues they have to deal with, some seem to make an honest effort, some give them a batch rating and release them and sometimes the ratings are adjusted.
I have as much CLUTTER as anybody in my SS, but I'am only showing possibilities, docks - winamp - taskbar are always hidden when I work, start menu - never use it.
Remember this site in not about SS, this is just an added bonus, and free also.

really...take a really good look at my "sampled" screenshot and , my "Quiet Scream" screenshot...i was kinda pissed at the time i posted this screenshot, so im not really pissed now..but i am still curious about those things. Im just giving u ppl a thought, why do almost the same things get different ratings?

Threi..I know you don't like widgets and clutter. But screen shots would be pretty pointless if everyone just put up a wallpaper and a start menu and a task bar. I look closer at screen shots that have stuff on them that looks interesting. I always look at your screen shots and I always rate your screen shot and i usually will make a comment.
When was the last time you took the time to comment on anyone elses screen shot ?
Remember..if you want a bit of feed back then take the time to give others the same.

I also wondered at the judging criteria,the guidelines state specific boundaries but don't state what the artistic markers are or what content "should " be in the SS for it to merit a high score.
I'm not fond of clutter either and i do try to make mine as funtional as possible(After all,i do have to work!)
In the end you just do what you like,don't expect anything from it except your own satisfation and maybe a favourable comment or two.After all "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

in terms of screen shots i dont comment much, i usually comment on pretty much every item i use (windowblind skins, some desktop widgets i use - for me i will comment on something after testing the functionality and looks of it on my desktop - u cant really do that with screenshots..if u know what i mean 
) so just because i dont comment much on screenshots doesnt mean im some freeloader that just downloads stuff and doesnt put in their two cents. On top of that wincustomize isnt the only place i download stuff from, i also download from deviantart as well. Im just posing this screenshot to explore the rating system of this site...is all...
PS: even though we say that we dont care what other people think of the skin (i have said it to..but ima admit it now) what people say and the rating slightly affects your opinion of what you put together. (i know this from experience that some of my desktops that have a higher rating will stay on a little longer than ones that have a lower rating)

No muss no fuss no clutter no cpu useage....and you just said you liked the widget ..there you go...what better reason to have them ? I just like them..they are fun..isnt that the point of coming here ? Threi ..if you look at my SS's..they have the least amounts of downloaded views. Because most are " girly" But im not going to change my style so people will press a button...So have some fun and toss some clutter

I like this screenshot. And I like the simpler ones , too. I wish I could keep mine simple, but I like to 'accumulate' things. (Who said packrat?!?!?!?)
But I think being 'functional' is what they really look for. It can be cluttered and functional as well as clean and functional.
