sorry for the delay in responding Ed,
the progress bar frame is a simple rectangle but with the added effect of inset emboss which makes the solid rectangle appear as if it's sunken into the image it's on top of. This was done in fireworks but I can look into what the corresponding effect would be in photoshop.
