Hue Shifting in CursorXP (Newbies 12)

Cordelia's Corner for the Complete No0b #12

Did you know you can change the color of your cursors using Stardock's CursorXP? It's pretty easy, at least for those of normal intelligence. I, of course, required special help.

Here what you do. You start by picking a cursor. This is a bit of a trial for those of us who are fundamentally incapable of making a decision, but I will spare you the details of the hours and hours I spent in nail biting frustration trying to choose. Let's cut right to the chase and say I like the Ying-Yang2 cursors that come with the CursorXP program. Here you can see the CursorXP interface and the Ying-Yang2 cursors. Click on the "Options" button. Have you clicked it yet?

Now click on the "Color" tab. Make sure the "Enabled" box is checked and this will allow you to shift the hue of your cursor. Hue shifting is different from simply changing the color. You can't simply pick a color, like purple. You must shift the hue and then all colors in the cursor (if there are more than one, as in this example) will get shifted the same amount. Just grab the slider bar and slide it along the colorful line until you...uh...randomly choose a place to stop. Click "Apply" to apply the changes you've just made. You won't be able to see any changes until you click "Apply" and then you must click "OK" in order to see them.

If you like the changes you've just made then click "Apply" in the bottom right corner of the dialogue box to accept and apply the changes. Unfortunately, this ends up as a trial and error process; if you don't like the new color go back and try again. For me this took a few tries to get a color I liked. Oh, who am I kidding? It took hours. But most people have a normal human grasp of decision making and are able to choose. Fortunately for me this is how I ended up with colors that I might not otherwise have chosen. You can see my newly recolored cursor by clicking on the thumbnail for a larger view.

Try playing around with the other three tabs at the top of the CursorXP interface and give your cursors some cool special effects, sounds and trails. Check it out! I can make my cursor explode when I click!! I feel so cool now.

Can you change the color of the trail on your cursors? Only in as much as you can change the color of your cursor. I don't think you can have a purple cursor and a green trail. Although that would be cool. And I think everyone who knows me would say that being cool is definitely my number one priority. Yes. Groovy and cool.

I'm running the lovely blue Vector Cell Vector-Cell skin by Ross 'b0se' Harvey, and the new purple and green cursors don't really match. I could hue shift the WindowBlinds skin and try to get it to match, or I could choose a whole new skin that would match...so many decisions, so little ability to make them.

Zoomba - I think the knock-knock joke was too highbrow for this article. Next time maybe. (And thank you, I'm glad you could follow it easily. That makes me feel good).

Phazonmaster - Congratulations! Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you this offer from this guy in Nigeria who has 87 million dollars he wants to share with me. I was going to keep it for myself, but you gotta spread the love around, you know!

JamMeister33 - Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Hey! I have version 1.31 and I see no such thing to change the colour or any tabs at all =| All I see are 2 tabs... one to change the shadow settings and another to change the language and some key shortcut ¬¬
What am I doing wrong? =P
