Official Troll Thumping Day Thread!
O' A Thumpin' We Will Go
Saturday, January 28, 2006 by PoSmedley | Discussion: New Releases
Two years later, it's going strong with more Thumpers than a Troll could count with all his toes.
For those asking what Troll Thumping Day is...here is a brief history.
"TROLL THUMPING
Troll Thumping on the internet is quite easy and has become
quite popular, since most Troll’s have taken to hiding out on the world wide web. However, they still have the means to dwell within stumps that they create
from stray bites of deleted info. (This is where your torch will come in handy,
so that you can ‘smoke’ them out’.)
The object of Troll Thumping is not to ‘kill’ or ‘harm’ the Troll, but to just let him know you are aware of their presence. Truth be known, Troll’s rather enjoy being thumped and some have been known to hang large red flags above their stumps, making it easier for you to find them.
The history of Troll Thumping goes back hundreds of years to the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland. It was one of the greatest fires the mountain had ever seen and turned thousands of tree’s into burned out, hollow stumps. Everyone
knows how much Troll’s like the smell of burnt wood (Another reason they
look forward to Troll Thumping Day..as Troll’s are deathly afraid of fire, so they rely on US to give their stumps that ‘new burnt-stump’ smell) so the burnt out stumps became quickly occupied. It didn’t take long before the
Wicklow Mountains were over run with Troll’s, for, as we all know, Troll’s will
only multiply as the stump availability will allow. You better believe that the Troll’s got ‘jiggy’ with it after the fire left some 15,000 stumps in it’s wake.
It was discovered, quite accidentally, that a good ‘thump’ to the noggin would render a male Troll impotent for up to one year. So, the people of Wicklow would gather once a year to go Troll Thumping in order to keep the population down. Why not just ‘kill’ all the Troll’s? Because, as you well know, Troll dung is the best fertilizer there is for a variety of crops, but especially Wild Wicklow Roses.
Today, the wild Troll population is well controlled and protected, and Troll Thumping Day has become more about tradition than anything else. Since many folk cannot get to Wicklow or don’t know where any wild Troll’s live, they have made Troll Thumping on the Internet their way to celebrate the tradition.
What you need to know…
1.You can only thump a Troll on Troll Thumping Day, which is every February First. To thump before or after February First will guarantee you bad luck through out the year.
2.You may only thump a Troll on the brow. Anywhere else will guarantee you bad luck through out the year.
Thumping On The Internet…
This is tricky. The best way to thump a Troll on the internet is in forums. The idea is to bait the Troll to post in a forum..or just lurk in one and hope a Troll shows up. Immediately AFTER the Troll posts, you follow with a resounding thump by posting your club. If your thump does not immediately follow the Troll’s post, it doesn’t count!!!!!
It is after you thump a Troll that then, and only then, are you allowed a Pint of Ale. Drinking BEFORE a thump or after a BAD thump will guarantee you bad luck through out the year.
Troll Thumping FORUMS have been known to pop-up, where a thumper may go to post a link to a good thump, or just hang out with other Thumper's to tell tales and drink Ale.
TROLL THUMPING BEGINS AT ONE MINUTE PAST MIDNIGHT ON JANUARY 31ST AND ENDS EXACTLY AT MIDNIGHT ON FEBRAUARY 1ST!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, it is considered bad form and very bad luck for any one person to thump the same Troll more than once!!! Never do this. Once you have thumped a Troll, go find another one. Give someone else a shot at it.
That’s all you need to know."

"During this period people from all walks of life became the subject of aggressive "witch-hunts," often based on inconclusive or questionable evidence."
This would imply that their is uncertainy as to wether or not you are a Troll. You admit you are..repeatedly. So, there is no 'witch-hunt'. And, as you are tempting fate with your attempted manipulation of the Dragon Union (local #666), do you think it's a good idea to drag Witches into this and risk their ire as well?
denial, rationalization and justification
The truth cannot be denied and requires no rationalization. And as far as justifying anything...who needs to justify a good time thumping?
We'd all gather 'round and wait for idiot villagers who misunderstood the actual holiday concept and thought it was theirs
A blatent distortion (did you help ghost write 'Little Pieces'). What they actually did was 'prey' on the 'village idiot', their mistake being that they thought all villagers were idiots. Many a time we would find the village idiot wandering the streets after a Troll encounter..dressed up like a 'DRAGON IN PINK CHIFFON AND LIPSTICK '. It would seem they had less respect for dragons than they did for the locally challenged.
stumps = we don't prefer them
To quote Bill Cosby..."Riiight". Do I have to go back and pull up every post where a Troll says 'Don't make me come out of my stump.' Not only do they love them, it's virtually a symbiotic relationship.
Most don't know our young are as playful a baby seals
If there were such a thing as ravenous flesh eating baby seals, yes. Which is why, when the village hears the echoing, caterwaullling of a newborn from the forrest, they are forced to hide their pet Monkey-Lizards, for everyone knows that baby Trolls THRIVE on them for the first 3 months. Furthermore, the 'glueing on of monkey ears and lizard tails' to the village cats in order to placate your young when Monkey-Lizards' are not available has gotten way out of hand.

I, Troll. Not iTroll. I have no fear of you or your kind. But I do fear what your kind may do to others less capable or willing to protect themselves. This is how it always starts. Pick a specie, any specie as long as it's 'different' than you. Spread stories and lies of how they are less than human, how they are beneath and incapable of an intelligent thought. Slowly you will convince others to join your 'just cause'. Soon you will have your little group of like minded peoples rallying around, acting like they are the master race of this earth. I seen it before.
Light your torch, put on your robe & don't forget that really cool pointy hat (you know, the one that kinda makes you look like some sort of "Great Wizard"), gather your little clan of idiots to ready themselves to sneak through the night spreading fear.
Know this human - you were not the 1st - there were Creatures upon this earth before man. There will still be Creatures here when man is gone. Trolls do not fear man. How many stories do you know of Trolls bothering any but man? It has always been our lot to stand between man and others. Man has always thought he has domain over Creatures and many have been destroyed by man under such noble causes as 'necessary' or 'progress'. Forests are destroyed, mountains leveled, giant pits dug in the earth and the air has been foul for centuries. By man. Creatures have dwindled in numbers because of man. Man is like a fire ant.
So have your thump if you must...I care not.
But if you turn to harm another Creature:to paraphrase a changeling I knew...(ahh good ole Beruse Bnar...big ole strapping hulk of a troll....that boy could thump some idiots
...wonder how he's doing)"You won't like me when I come out of my stump".

how they are beneath and incapable of an intelligent thought.
More attempted manipulation. At no time has any reference been made to the intelligence or lack of as pertaining to Troll's.
don't forget that really cool pointy hat
Thumper's don't wear pointy hats and what do you have against Wizard's? You are the one who constantly brings 'other creatures' into this. Dragons, Witches, and now Wizards. "The Troll doth protest too much, methinks."
gather your little clan of idiots
Again with defemation and prejudicial remarks towards mankind.
Forests are destroyed
The constant manipulation of Dragons to burn down entire groves of tree's in order to quench your fetish.
giant pits dug in the earth and the air has been foul for centuries
And you still refuse to put fences around your dung holes. When will the cheap laughs you get from watching the locally challenged fall into these things be satisfied?
Creatures have dwindled in numbers
Yes, and Monkey-Lizards are still on the endangered list, despite our efforts to help you find something else to feed your young.
good ole Beruse Bnar..wonder how he's doing
Still in a dungeon for pilfering Dragon eggs for a Monkey-Lizard omelette.
But if you turn to harm another Creature
You are the only one implying we would 'harm' other creatures.
Perhaps there are a few Dragon Egg shells gathered in the corner of your stump? Or the remains of a Monkey-Lizard or two?
So full of artless jealousy is guilt,
It spills itself in fearing to be spilt.
William Shakespeare

...we're not so easily manipulated anymore. It was done so much in the past, we have learned a lesson or two.
PS. Is a monkey lizard the same as a Chameleon?

Actually I think that was me. You see, as a young drake I was enticed (manipulated) to visit a dragonelle in her lair. Had I been discovered by her Egg layers, I would be nothing more than charred lizard flesh. The visit was incredible. Her purring was enough to ... well, that's a story for a different day. As I was preparing to leave, her Egg layers were right outside her lair entrance. What could a young drake do? She dressed me up in this fasion, with the chiffon and lipstick, and we walked out together, arm in arm, like we were two dragonelle's playing "dress up like bipedal noscales". My newly acquired crest had to be covered by a scarf, and it took me days to get the mascara off. In the end, it was well worth it. The problem arose trying to enter my own lair, looking like something out of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now THAT, was embarrassing.

Poor, poor Dragon. You will be avenged for this brainwashing they have done to you, fear not.

Well, if Trolls are to be shamed, blamed and framed for that which we have not done....go ahead and add young love to the list. I've heard worse lies.
PS. Is a monkey lizard the same as a Chameleon? They both taste like chicken.
Rotisserie grilled over green mesquite, yum
Chamelemonkeyfrogs on the other hand are of the higher order of Creatures and are not considered food anymore than your neighbors.
Do not confuse them with monkey lizards.
