Is IconPackager SD Software?
I'm Confused
Friday, January 20, 2006 by PoSmedley | Discussion: Stardock Support General
The email reply I get is as follows...
Hello,
You have been clear. I completely understand your question. I am unable to assist you. I'm here for technical support (this means I assist in problems with the software).
As I said in my previous email, "I'd be more than happy to help, but we unfortunately do not support anything created by third parties." By "anything created" this includes themes, icon packages, etc. For creating your own themes, please consult either the forums or the Stardock irc chat (Chat button in Stardock Central). Many of the fans, authors and developers of themes and Stardock software hang out there.
I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I'm just stating the facts of the situation.
My problem is with the software and the lack of info or help with it's features. Isn't IconPackager SD software? What am I missing here?
I am NOT trying to start a big thing...but goshdarnit...I wanna use this feature to make an IconPack and all I get is more and more confused. If SD has not supplied the info on how to use this..how can I get it from another user. I have posted in 3 threads and not even Paul who used/uses it for APOGEE is clear on how to use it.
Help please. How can I create a theme when the info on how to do it with the features supplied in the software is not available?.. which party do I need to get help from?

As you can see, I have made the subpackages. They show up in the dropdown that is created in the parent file on IP. But after trying evry variation I could think of AND doing what Paul said to do, they still cannot be saved in the IP file. When you try to save them, they vanish.
Several other people have been unsuccessful as well. This is not a problem with my theme, this a problem either with the software and/or lack of instruction that comes for this feature. I feel that either instruction should be supplied or if it's a bug just explain it.

I think SubPackages feature has to do something with IconDeveloper --- what is the build you have?
No, subpackages have nothing to do with IconDeveloper. Check the History links for IconDeveloper, and IconPackager in SDC.
Po.... The response you're recieving from support is bothersome to say the least. Of what use is a new feature that no one knows how to use, and/or that SD is unwilling to explain?

Thank you for the validation. I thought maybe I was going nutz.
So far, APOGEE is the only pack that has been uploaded that makes use of this feature, but when I traded posts with Paul about how it works, he was kind of vague and then just stopped replying. I know D.Arnaez said he had plans to release an icon pack with subpackages and I'm curious to see if he does. It's slightly bothersome that the only pack that utilizes this feature so far is a PREMIUM PACK.
One other note...I have tried IRC, but no one ever responds. I see 20 people in the room, but they are either idle or just not responding.

Po'...you could always start a PETITION
Hmmmm..
Okay, this is NOT a petition. It's just an act of desperation. Here is a preview of my Icon Pack for Valentines Day. The reason I need the subpacks is that I have made 'his and her' icons.
If you like it and want to see it uploaded as ONE pack with the subpackage feature utilized, leave your mark. Maybe that'll help get the ball rolling if there is enough interest.

I'd just upload them as one.
If I can't use the subpackage feature, it will have to be 2 seperate packs. I actually have 4 versions....these two and then the same two but with a grungier effect. I don't know if I would bother with uploading 4 packs of basically the same thing. But, we'll see.
Thanks Patriots and Bichur.

Yes, I see comments about IRC being the place to go, if you need help, but everytime I've checked it out, there's a boat load of people there, saying nothing........ it's not a 'chat' room, it's a sitting room.
True. I used to sit around there.

For the time being, simply package your theme manually using winzip. When you have your zip created, just rename its extension to .ip and you should be good to go. If you need any more help on manually zipping it just let me know, as long as you keep your subpackages directory structure you should be fine.

When will you be releasing it??
'Hoping' to release it with my first WB for Valentines Day. The WB is going very slow, so, the IP may debut without it. We'll see.
