x64 OS Debate

i have just bought a new computer with the amd athlon64 +3500 and was curious as the what people have to say that have tried the x64 operating systems..the only ones i have heard about are the windows xp prox64 and suse linux. i have 2.2gb memory, 300gb between 2 hdd, broadband internet, and mainly play a couple of games, work with photos, music, and would appreciate any opinions anyone would like to share. thanks!

My laptop is running a Turion 64bit processor but I have yet to make the leap. Unfortunatley I got the laptop about 2 months before Windows XP 64 Bit Edition went live otherwise I would have received a 'free' copy. I don't feel like paying for it twice so I guess I am stuck with 32bit till I upgrade one of my desktops again.

There is also Solaris 10.
But if you only have 2 GB of RAM, what would you need a 64 bit system for?
You are not likely to get more performance out of the box just because the code that the machine must load becomes bigger.

Adobe says thats the 64 bit version of Premiere can render a video SEVERAL HOURS FASTER than the 32 bit version. Ram is only part of the overall battle.

Exactly. 64bit does help greatly in media encoding tasks. One example using 32bit VirtualDub on my Athlon64 3000+ at 2.5GHz got around 30fps. Doesn't sound to great for a A64 but oh well. Using the 64bit build of VirtualDub and a 64bit build of xvid I got 50-60fps. That's not bad IMO.
