Icon Developer Problem

Friday, December 9, 2005 by 47songs | Discussion: Icons

For some reason, my icons will not save in the size I am trying to save them in. I am trying to save them in 128x128 XP size but they are saving at 32x32. I don't believe I'm doing anything differently than I have done before.

I open ID and choose convert image to icon. I open a png file and select the 128x128 XP format. Click Ok. Then try to save it, but it doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry, forgot to say "hit Enter" after "type: regedit" above.

Before I go on, I just want to say that I get a technological kick out of you, Paul! (That's a good thing! )

I uninstalled and rebooted and made sure all thoe files had no ID files sstill contained in them. Reinstalled, but with no change. So I decided to archive the older version. Actually, it's better but I'm still have a little difficulty. It's not quite the same as it was before all this happened. It's saving the icons in 128x128, but without the quality as before. I've got to try some more things and see if I can get the quality back. Maybe I need to export them in a different way, not sure.

After I saved them, I had not had to double click them in the past for any reason. So I tried double clicking the saved icon. It opened in Irfanview and gave me the option to save as an icon or png file. I tried both ways, however both ways left me with a black background. Even the png!

I'll keep working on it.

Thanks, Skinstudio for input, info and for considering the next ID update.

Oooops. I confused avatars. I should have said "Thanks SkinStudio" not "thanks Koasati"

Thanks, Skinstudio!!

AHA! So it's not me - Woman of Melodies! I was wondering where Koasati came in on this! I was beginning to believe SkinStudio was an alias for Koasati!

Donna,

This sounds like you have Infranview as the default handler for viewing ".ico" files.

If so, what happens if you set IconDeveloper as the associated program for ".ico" files (Tools > Preferences > File Types > select ".ico" > click "Apply"), and then double-click the file to view all the included formats after saving?

I'm not sure that this will make any difference, but it might be worth a try.

HOLY MOLY! It works, Paul! I really don't know when or how Irfanview became the default image handler for ico files, but at least the transfer back to ID is working! I'm still leaving the archived ID on my comp for a while, at least until I get this package completed. Plus I'd like to see how the next build is, well... built! THANK YOU!

I hope others like Bichur and Webgismos are able to get ID working to their specifications as well. Good luck guys!

When I double click on an icon in ID it opens with Paint.net...is this correct? I tried doing the re-association (Tools > Preferences > File Types > select ".ico" > click "Apply") but it still opens with Paint.net. When I tried to method suggested it already had .ico set for the file type. Any other way to correct this? Or is this not a problem?

If you want to use a different editor automatically on double click then in ID, tools, preferences, image editors - add the one you want - then move it up to the top of the list.

Click the add button and browse for the .exe of graphics software, then move it to top.
