Theme Manager deleted my entire IP Theme folder

Sunday, May 15, 2005 by aimzzz | Discussion: New Users

I thought I was deleting a particular ip file using Theme Manager. Instead, the entire ip\Themes folder vanished
Yesterday I had added several Icon Pks-- it there any way to recover the folder? I have back-ups on alot of the Icon Pks, but I never expected Theme Manager to do something so radical. I have version 2.1.0.1-- is this version the new release announced on the home page, or are we about to get an upgrade?

They should still be in your Recycle Bin unless you have your deleted files set to not go there. Just go to the Recycle bin, find the files, right click on them and click "Restore". If they aren't there...I'm out of ideas. Good luck

Thanks-- I'd already checked there. (I'd never use a bypass for Recycle Bin-- my safety net). Thanks for the suggestion, though

Thanks- I've already started rebuilding- still have alot of the zips from downloading, so it won't be too bad. The good part about being new to a piece of software is that there's less to lose. Also, it's a reminder to keep back-ups. I would have been upset if I had put together some custom ip packs. At this point, it's just a matter of remembering what was there & loading it up again

Thanks 00

Anybody happen to know which Icon Pks came with the IP installation? would it damage anything if I re-install IP to get those pks back? IP doesn't seem to be the most robust of programs & I don't want to screw it up...

Also should we uninstall the older version of Theme Manager before upgrading, or will the install program take care of everything?

when something is deleted in a program, it is deleted. none of the recycle bin stuff.

It depends on how the program is written. Some use the recycle bin and some don't. ACDSee, for example, does use the recycle bin (as an option).

aimzzz,

(1) Avatar - create one in a graphics program, make it square (it will be sized to 50 x 50 pixels automatically, so 128 x 128 would do just fine) > save as a ".jpg" file > go to "My Account" hanging tab at top right of page > "Update Images" > you will see the browse button for personal icon > browse to your image > click "upload" button at lower left of page - that's it.

(2) You will probably want to save current themes to a temporary folder, then use the "uninstall>reboot>delete IP directory>install IP" method, to gain access to the preinstalled themes - then repeat "uninstall>reboot>delete IP directory>install IP" method to install the newer version of IP.

(3) Theme Manager installer should take care of correctly installing the updated version. Though I would save all items found in the "Themes" folder in Theme Manager directory before updating.

I hope that answers some of your concerns.
