What's the difference
between Winstyles/VisualStyles

Hi all !
I have a question, What's the difference between Winstyles and VisualStyles?
I know that you need StyleXP in order to use VisualStyles, but im not sure about Winstyles,
I recently downloaded a WinStyle and in the readme file it says I need StyleXP.
I have seen .msstyle and .theme So im a little bit confused
Can anyone clear this out for me? I really want to know which program is needed to use which skin, and whats the extention name for it?
