Help me make a decision!!!

Looking to buy a notebook (cannot use a Mac) to use at the institute. So I would like your opinions.
The minimum config:
30 GB
256 MB RAM
CD-R/RW/DVD
802.11b wireless connectivity.
I am looking to spend approx $1500 (now remember that this is 65 K in Indian Rupees) + import duty.
I am loooking for something with a good battery life and something that would help me for the design work that I do too (cause I would be using the laptop in the hostel).
BTW, I have been admitted into the MBA program in a very good university.

Yeah, and to drink at least three triple Espressos, eat Jamaican Meat Pies and Peppers like Chocolate then train your but to not remind you that somethings it does not care for because they are way to hot and not for human consumption

HP makes a very nice Laptop since they took over Compag who made a very fast complete line of Laptops. The Armada's and Presario's where bang up and HP did not have a good name on the desktop or laptop areas. HP servers did well enough, then they took over Compaq and in short order they really have raised to the top.

apparently you won''t get much durability out of that unit so just be careful hehe.not that i would recommend dropping any other brand, of course
