Wallpaper Submission

Sunday, May 18, 2003 by CAClark | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

I can't find any contact details on Wincustomize, so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm wondering why my wallpaper submission has been removed and seemingly rejected?

It was a blue tinted verion of this image http://www.f-nine.co.uk/images_gallery/laat_art.jpg with a slight offset to make it ideal for the updated PixOS suite.

I'm pretty pissed off right now, as my last submission was rejected for being a Terragen image. I've seen tons accepted since.

I also made a bright wall that wasn't accepted, CAClark. You can see the wall at this http://mywebpages.comcast.net/michaelficarra/OnePixel.jpg It was another bright wall that wasn't accepted. Jafo thinks it is a rip of his work. *rolls eyes* You can download it at this http://mywebpages.comcast.net/michaelficarra/OnePixel.zip I'm right there with you, CAClark.

I think CA reacted pretty neat. Fantasy world? Yeah, everybody needs some escapism...that's why you have music, movies, paintings etc etc etc....It was his first encounter with this, so....I remember a loooooooong way back how I reacted

I can understand the frustrations. I have submitted several wallpapers, none of which have been accepted. You cant tell me it's due to them being "Brycey", because I see several new ones on here that are. The biggest thing that upsets me is that you don't even offer the name of the moderator that blackballed the work. Do you guys use a voting system of sorts between you to moderate the wallpapers? I think that would be a good plan because the tastes of the one, may not be reflective of the tastes of the many. (gad that wreeks of trek)and I don't really think your system is fair as it stands. Moderations is necessary, I agree, but when you reject one and approve another that, in someones opinion, is not as good as the one rejected, it indicates that the system may need reworked.
Perhaps you could put all submits into a special area which you cannot download from, but only vote on. Leave the items there for a week or so. If the voting warrants it, then it gets approved for downloading etc.. if not, then out it goes.
Please give it some thought, as I think you are discouraging alot of potential right now.
Perhaps even letting us know who rejected the wall would give us a start. If we want to know more we can email the moderator directly.
Thanks for understanding..

The final rejection i believe is not made by one single moderator (depending on the work)but after each leaving their own comments for the next to read.

Yes it is nice to know why it was rejected which is why they say to email them but only if you really want to know why and not to just have a go at them, i used to get annoyed at rejections but i just look at what didnt make it and improve, or if i cant then ask a moderator for their views on the one in question.

There a single reason why i have not uploaded any of my awesome walls: That reason would be (read the 2 posts above mine) that I don't mind being moderated but I know they would get rejected cause they are either not as good as everyone elses or the are to "White"
I tend not to create walls that are dark, that just depresses me. Hence the reason I love OS X and Mac. But since I am stuck using a PC i will make walls for myself they are bright.

BTW I agree with the voting system. 1 moderator should not say ya or nay. It should be voted on like everything else in this world.

I dont upload expecting to get accepted, im not as good as most but you won't improve as quick unless you set yourself a target.

I have a target: My own personal use.

Well not only you personally, everyone.

Phoon....yes, that's exactly how it is done, though on occasion a wall submission will either be 'so good' or 'so bad' that there really is no reason to wait for further comment and one 'opinion' suffices....'chick-walls' figure into the latter category...

So, Jafo.. are you saying that if comment is not received by the author, that the submission is really really bad?

No....generally no 'public' comment will be made on a work....only private comments by moderators to confer and concur...

Notification of a work 'rejection' is only made to clarify/explain a policy violation...if the upload is 'porn' they will be told it is such....that sort of thing...

While Y'all are duking it out over what gets through & what doesn't, I'm just submitting my 2nd and I'm glad for the coment by Boxxi that he would respond if asked about a rejection. I don't know about anyone else but i'm just trying to learn to do this stuff and I know there are other sites which seem to take everything. If & when I finally get one accepted, i'm sure it will probably be because of the rejections and what I learned from them. If the criticism comes from the moderator then you know what they are looking for. So the irate coments are just hurting those of us who would appreciate constructive criticism.

On the other hand, moderators are not "God".

On the other hand, moderators are not "God".

That's good, because then I wouldn't believe in myself

Walls are not moderated by one person.  They are discussed and then either rejected or published.  Since multiple people have seen the work, if people have a question, they can email a moderator/admin of choice from the "about" box.  We quit send personal emails to rejections due to time and frustration concerns.  We received too many hostile personal emails.  So, it was either stop sending emails, or quit having the wallpaper library.  We decided to quit sending emails.
