Deskscape 8.5 using Windows 8.1 Problem

WMV file Dreams won't play back now

Wednesday, October 21, 2015 by AzDude | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

I upgraded from Deskscapes 8.2 to 8.5 ( the newest version ) last night and now Deskscapes Won't play

back any of the dreams that were made with a WMV file , ( New or Older ones )  only playing back AVI file dreams.

I'm Using Windows 8.1 with the latest updates  ... All dreams worked fine before the upgrade.

I.m working on several dreams right now but now can't check any of them made with a WMV file.

Can I get a little help , Is it only me or can someone else check this out , please ..

Can you link to a few that use WMV? Most from the last couple years are avi. I can test on Win 7 for you.

Here are a couple WMV dreams that won't play on my Computer with Deskscapes 8.50

and Windows 8.1 .

AVI dreams play OK , but not WMV ( all work fine with Deskscapes 8.2 )

Is Deskscape 8.5 only for Windows 10 , if so that should be stated .

See if these WMV dreams play back for you who have Deskscapes 8.5 and Win10

Maybe someone from Stardock or a member could check this out for me

Thanks

Meanwhile I reverted my PC back to Deskscapes 8.2 as I'm working on some WMV dreams.

I'm working on some WMV dreams.
Don't those things suck way too much CPU? Running Sunrise my CPU use went from18% to over 75% Win7,  Dual core A4 APU, GeForce 450GTS 1280x1024 res.

I only have win8.1 to test my dreams and all that I post have low cpu use.

I run a CPU gauge fulltime on the desktop to check all dreams I make before upload to the site.

also the moderator checks them.

Win7 has been awhile back so not sure for you what the problem is.

WMV dreams do run a little higher CPU use than AVI but not that much.

After 100's of Dream uploads I get few CPU problems back, might be something with your PC.

I do note on my uploads which file type I used so maybe you should just stay with AVI dreams ?

Those 3 WMV dreams run at about 20% cpu use and the AVI run about 10% or less on my win8.1 PC

Try checking windows explorer and see if it's running to high or multiples and click on restart then check your CPU usage.

For whatever reason windows explorer goes nuts and runs high for other reasons other than running dreams .

That's pretty much what I do. I blame the higher CPU use on the fact that the A4 APU in this, my Media Center secondary rig is a decidedly low-end dual core.  I only use it for lighter duty use. My main rig is a quad AMD 9850 BE that has no trouble with WMV files at all.

P.S. I also keep a CPU and GPU meter sidebar gadget on my desktop at all times on both rigs. I wouldn't boot up without them, on 7, 8.1 or 10.

Were you able to run WMV dreams on Windows 10 using Deskscapes 8.5 ?

OK, running W10/DS 8.5 with no installed codecs and WMV format dreams run fine. CPU use is "reasonable.'"

All 3 of the ones you linked to in Reply 4 work for me on 8.1 with DS 8.5.   I have K-Lite codecs installed.

Thanks again Jim,

I updated with the K Lite Megs Pk - re-installed Deskscapes 8.5 on Windows 8.1

and all seems to be working OK both WMV and AVI dreams files and dreams.

Thanks again for the heads up , reminding me to update the codecs .

Others should follow this advice

Problem now corrected !!

Well , after installing new codecs I had some program problems , so I decided to just go ahead

and update my PC with WINDOWS 10 and deskscapes 8.5 so far No problems.

Will report back later if issues with Deskscapes and Windows 10
