Thanks very much for your prompt reply.  The version I downloaded from the Stardock "My Downloads" page is 1.31.0, and the installer refuses to run, again saying that my OS doesn't meet the requirements of Sound Packager.  Perhaps they've updated it, or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I'm on Win8 Home Edition instead of Pro.

Oh well.  Was hoping to get my Babylon 5 sounds back.  I guess I'm SOL.

One more point as to why it is good to let SDC/ODM archive your apps.

Any list like this for 8.1? I read somewhere else that WB had issues.

Where did you read this?

WB is quite happy on my Windows 8.1, but as with any OS you cannot assure that WB will function perfectly on -any- software configuration.

I have read everywhere that Windows 8 has issues. Use at your own risk.

I read it in another thread here, someone said there was conflicts with the start button and I believe they said the start menu was still the windows 8.1. I will have to see if I can the post though to make sure I have it right.

Junior, I use 8.1, all the info in the OP applies to 8.1. Pay no attention to the h8rs, they're just that.

I agree with Snowman, my rig is working fine with 8.1. A few glitches, no more than with 7, just different glitches.

So Jim you can confirm that Windowblinds works fine with 8.1? No problems with the start menu? If not I will be installing WB because I can't take much more of looking at crap.

I have read everywhere that Windows 8 has issues.

Keyphrase there being "I have read".

It is my opinion that anyone who hasn't run Windows 8 as their everyday OS for at least a few weeks can't really give a valid opinion of the new OS.

Most people react to what they have read, or what they find by experimenting with Win8 for an hour or two per day. Not enough time to evaluate something. Heck, even Stardock thinks Windowblinds needs to be a 30 day eval for their trial.

Why should we give an operating system less of a trial and form opinions on it based on a few hours use?

WB and Start8 together, no problems with the start menu, for me. All recent screenshots by me have been from Windows 8.1.

I can't confirm that no one else has problems, no, of course not.

JR, this is the case if you don't use both Windowblinds and Start8.

8.1 brought back the start button, but not the start menu.

Now, if you want a custom start button, Junior, you'll need to check this box in WB config. Otherwise, Start8 will use the WB start button.

You'll check that box, save settings. Then go to Start8 and choose a start button.

Good to know too Jim. I am happy with the WB buttons though but if I want to change them that is a nice feature. I have WB up and running and so far so good. The only thing I noticed was when I opened SkinStudio 8 the bottom of the window was under the taskbar and I could not resize the Skinstudio window. I had to move the taskbar. I have yet to try to replicate it but I notice other windows resize no problem.
