Voodoo - WIP
Tuesday, September 4, 2012 by k10w3 | Discussion: Sneak Previews
Since I'm pretty much finished with my GUIC submission (still sitting on it, giving myself some time to make sure all things are perfect), I've been putting my creative juices towards my Halloween desktop, which is my favorite skin to create.
You know how some skins just seem to build themselves, and others are kind of an agonizing frustration? This one is an agonizing frustration. Something's just not right, and no matter how many times I look at it and change things, it's not feeling like it's working, (maybe it's cursed?) so I thought I would post a WIP thread and get some help from the community.
Give me your thoughts on what needs to change.

Photoshop 896427 (R 137, G 100, B 39) works well against the dark gray, especially if you can put either a dark drop shadow or outline to it. If you can't apply text effects (shadow, outline, etc), 937452 (R 147, G 116, B 82), works well.
Otherwise it's looking pretty fantastic, Jim!

Thanks Karen....you did the work.
How about text on the red? Did I get close?

I wouldn't use the red text on the dark gray background -- it's too hard to see; I used red text on my side skins when it was against the light beige background. Also, Seth thinks you need to add some drop shadows to the skulls and tooth/claws, and I have to agree with him. It would make it congruent with the voodoo doll and shrunken head.

Seth PM'd me about it, it read like he meant the wall, not my stuff.
And I meant the straw colored text on the red, is it ok?
I know not to use it on the grey.

Karen, for the text against the dark grey, I'd like to match what you did on the start panel. The aboves numbers do not match.
What did you use on the start menu programs (left side)

Where did the flaming skulls and skull come from?

Flaming skulls?
The small skulls used as buttons came from Karen's GFX for the loading screen/necklace. I don't know what you mean by flaming skull unless you mean the cursor.
