Version number of WFX:  5
Detailed description of issue

If I connect to PC using remote desktop (Ovel 1Gb LAN, so all features on (DWM...)), lot of applications looks freezed and if I manage to disable WFX I got message DWM stop working & closing.

After WFX disable everything start working fine.

If WFX automaticaly disable like in WFX4 whould be great.

The graphics card(s) you have and the driver version if known: GeForce 260
Your screen resolution: Full HD

Is WFX5 installed on the host or the client or both?

This is not a bug, but an observation. The 'menus' in Office 2010 are windows and behave/animate as such, which is a little disconcerting. I think I'll get used it, though.

Which menus are these?

We have been unable to reproduce any menus in Office animating as windows.

The problem with start menu animation is quite random now, works, doesn't work, after reboot still doesn't work, then after another reboot it does works.....no clue

Host (remote computer),

Windows 7 Ultimate Host with WFX5

Windows 7 Pro clean setup (RDP client), connecting via RDP to WFX5 enabled server over 1Gb network with all features on.

I'm sorry to have misled you, Neil.  Office2010 technically doesn't have 'menus'.  I should have said 'dialogs' - FileOpen, FileClose, FileSaveAs, OpenRecentFile; they all behave as windows (I assume they should) & use the Open & Close animations.  I use a 1600x900 display with right-side Taskbar and have those dialogs set as large as I can.  The Open & Close animations are choppy enough on my rig, particularly with large windows, to be a distraction so I've abandoned using them.  The Minimize & Restore animations, on the other hand, are smooth and I still use them.  The difference in quality between Open/Close animations & Minimize/Restore animations is significant on my rig for some reason.  It's Intel graphics, of course.

I've seen an issue with WindowFX's own UI, BTW - the window opens with a lot of white blocks which fill in one at a time over a period of half a second or so - which I thought at first was due to the WFX animation, but it happens with the Windows default animation, too.

Daiwa: Which animations are you running for Window Open/Close and Min / Max?

I test-drove all the version 5 ones, but was mainly using Expand from Desktop or Rotate (Horz/Vert) for Open and Reverse Suction to Right for Close.

I'm using random min/restore animations currently.

I don't think the Intel graphics drivers are quite up to the job, although the GE score is 5.5 per WB About.

Thanks, Neil.

I hope that WindowFX 5 add "shadow effect" like Mac OS.
The shadow effect of Mac OS is better than Windows Vista / 7 !

Expand from Desktop is a v4 style animation which works differently to the v5 ones so may have different performance.

Very frequently, but not 100% of the time, when I save a document in Word 2010 the window will dim/trans & stay that way until clicked.  Happens with Excel, too.  The window will transiently dim each time I print as well, but I think that would be intended behavior.  Win7Pro 64b notebook, Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Try turning off close animations and see if that impacts it.

If not, try disabling open animations and turn close ones back on.  Any change?

Turning off the close animation (Distort3) had no effect ("turning off" = selecting Windows default).

Turning off the open animation (Distort3) and turning the close animation (Distort3) back on: fixed - no dimming/trans on save.

Interesting - now (open animation off, close animation on), just pressing the Caps Lock key transiently dims/transes the active window.

What happens if you set the open animation to one of the v4 animations?  They are shown at the bottom of the list.

To be fair, I may be taxing my rig a bit - at the time I had Palemoon with 7 open tabs, 3 Citrix VPN sessions, 5 Word documents, Outlook and a medical imaging app all running simultaneously, with explorer.exe using 7-20% of CPU.  Just my normal day load.

I'll give the V4 animations a spin.

No dim on save using the Expand (V4) open animation & Distort3 close animation.

I am still on WinXP. Is WinFX 5 going to have window shadows like older version did? I always used the Mac style window shadows in older WinFX versions.
