Problems with DesktopX

Tuesday, July 6, 2004 by Lady Aarielle | Discussion: Stardock Software

Yesrterday I installed DesktopX and now when I try to download themes I get a window telling me that the theme was built with a newer version of DesktopX.

SDC version: 1.32.275
DesktopX version: 2.10

I went to Stardock to check and this seems to be the latest version?!

Any suggestions?

BTW, when I right click for updates to DX in SDC it seems to go through the motions of updadting to something but it does it so fast I can't tell what it's doing.... at any rate 2.1 is what I have.

OMG....not you again.......

Open SDC and check "Show Pre-release Apps". You're looking for dx version 2.19(h)[b].002

.... Oui, C'est moi!!

Ok, I do have "Pre-release versions" checked.
When I click on DX right where "pre-released versions" is it changes and says:

Version: 2.10 [History]
Date: 6/21/2004

And when I click on history it shows that there is a 2.19 but I just downloaded this yesterday and when I go to Stardock site it shows 2.1 as the latest version?

I don't need any help getting confused I do that well enough on my own!

....get the boots and mag....

Go into settings and check "Show Pre-release Versions" in there. Under 'Tools' click "Update Apps"

yep, all that is done, but went to recheck and it's still the same.... it seems to go through the motions but it's still 2.1 and does not show a newer update under avilable.

The boots are already on!!

...good ...keep the mag handy too...

I want you to download and install this http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdc191_beta.exe . It may update itself or you might have to go into settings and check "Check for Stardock Central Beta Updates on Startup". You're looking to update SDC to version 1.92(.61. Build 50....

When it's at that, it should show the correct Beta version of DX (2.19)

OK, I did as you said but SDC looks so different... it never looked like that before.
Click on my name... I'm not sure what you'll see today, but I took a pic of SDC and what it looks like after the download.

If you can see it you'll notice it's version 1.91 build 40.

Yeah...I see it. Check that "Check For Stardock Cenral Beta Updates on Startup". Close and open SDC and it should update.

OK, SDC is now:
Version: 1.92[b].61, build 50

However, DX still does not show a newer update.

BTW, is there something I need to do to get SDC to look like before? For instance, "software button", check for "pre-released versions", etc.?

Yeah...just click on 'Object Desktop' on the left. Before we get radical here....let's try this: Un-install DX using the right click in SDC. Click on 'Update Apps' and see if it shows you the newest DX now...

hummmm.....don't you have the whole Object Desktop Subscription?

No, the only thing that I have purchased so far is IP, WB, and WC Subscription.

Since my area is not computers and I am a newbie at this, I figured I'd just get a couple of easy programs and see how I did.

However, lately I've been thinking of getting Object Desktop.... but I'm still not sure I would know what to do with all of its components. But, I'm getting braver everyday!!

If I did buy it would I have to uninstall everything and start from scratch again?

No, you would only have to un-install the 'Shareware' programs. Object Desktop is a good deal, but it's up to you of course as to your needs. The Shareware programs are only the 'Released' versions and that's as far as you can go unless you get Object Desktop...

OK, I'm gonna do it!!

Just so I do it right after I buy it should I just come back here and ask you what to do? Or do I just follow on-screen instructions?

I had a very bad experience one time that I installed and uninstalled a lot of stuff.... my PC didn't like it and I had to do a whole system restore.

It's pretty straight forward. Just remember to un-install all of Shareware and put new serial numbers in SDC. You can revert back to your old SDC if you want. Just re-boot and it will prompt you (it's a bug in the beta, but in this case it works in your favor).

As always....I'll leave the front porch light on....just in case
