Save Image as.....

Monday, September 5, 2011 by Ryvermist | Discussion: Windows 7

Hello, all. I've somehow made it where I can no longer 'Save Image As...' on either of my browsers, IE or Firefox? Any clue on what I've done? Or How to fix it? Other than reinstalling, or system restore? My apologies..I know I used to know how to fix this, but apparently I'm getting too old to be doing this, or my comp is just being pissy. On Firefox it's just an hourglass for a bit, then nothing. On IE, a window pops up and reads 'Windows cannot find the file specified'. My thanks, in advance, for any/all help~

oops, oh yes, is windows 7 64

When things start not "working right" I suspect malware as the source. That or a borked .NET update.

Can you open the control panel and cmd? If you can't and the browsers have a new home page or new search engine do a Malwarebytes scan.

If those other things are ok, did you do a recent Windows update which had .NET updates and if so, did the problem crop up after that? Can you open msconfig through the "Run" in the Start Menu? If you can, then it probably isn't the .NET. (see Daiwa's post about that).

If all that's ok, and you haven't recently altered your security settings or the settings in the browsers, try uninstalling Firefox including all personal settings, and reinstalling it from mozilla.org. See if that doesn't fix that. If it does, uninstall IE and install ie9 x32 (better and faster than x64).

I did all of those things, and finally had to go to a system restore point. It fixed it, although I now have to re install window blinds and object dock plus again ( I had just purchased them yesterday). While I'm on the subject, should I install the reg or the beta? Or both? For Window Blinds, that is, when I purchased, they let me download both, so not sure~

Just as an aside, this community is spectacular, and I can't wait to start building my own skins. My thanks, DrJBHL for your time, and help~

Oh, and I use IE 8, because 9, imho, sucks eggs. But Firefox is main browser anyway, so I guess I should update to 9, mebbe~

You can install either one.

The beta addresses some issues you can read about in I.D.'s article, here: https://www.wincustomize.com/article/411685/

If you go with ie9 (though ugly is more secure) I'd advise using the x32 not x64.

Yes, the folks here are awesome... great Community, imo. And you're welcome.

Well, what do you know...it only happens with Crucible WB. I may have a corrupted version, since I was using it on trial version. Lemme delete and reidownload, mebbe I did something there~

Yep, a fresh install of the Crucible WB fixed the issue, so far. I'm glad, it's one of, if not my fave skin, lol~

Good to hear you resolved the issue and glad to hear it wasn't my Crucible theme causing the issue Ryvermist!

Interesting addition to my list of "possible reasons for...". Thanks for that update, Ryvermist!

Glad to hear it wasn't Lightstar's skin!

For Firefox downloads...."Tools"..."Options"..."Main"...under downloads check..."always ask me where to save files."  And then you "should" be able to save it as whatever you want.
