Skin Button text Problem

Saturday, December 20, 2003 by WebGizmos | Discussion: Stardock Software

Ok...For the most part the text color on the skin(Colony)Buttons is fine... but there are some cases such as when I go to download something and the download window pops up the text color is different from that of the skin and I cannot read the text on the buttons. The buttons are greyish/brownish and the text is black. So what I need to know is how can I correct this in SkinStudio or whatever other way there is...I've tried doing this several times with SkinStudio but I am apparently not getting it.

There is a setting under system buttons, text color, possibly sometimes the color comes from the 3d controls, text, system buttons.(I know,2 different settings for the same thing)

Thanks I.R...I'll try that and see if I can get it corrected...seems strange though that the colors would change like that.
The same thing happens when looking at the submit button after writing this post.

Ok...Wasn't able to find the settings you specified. Another problem which is most likely related, is that some panels containing text..such as when I click to close MSN and the panel pops up to ask me if this is what I want to do...I can't read the text on the panel because the background is black and it seems to do this on all skins now...except the WindowsXP skin (if that is indeed a skin and not a default).

Again thats probably the setting for system text color.Look under classic colors in the main window of SS,then to the right is a list of colors you can set.I think its window, text, normal.Probably set to black, warning some of these color settings affect more than one area.

Again...Thanks I.R, that helps out a little more since I'm very unfamiliar with all the variations. I go in there and play around to see what everything does but it will take some time to understand it all.

Ok I.R....Gave your suggestion a try and that didn't do the trick. I tried changing the panel background as well and everything else that was set to black and nothing worked. I'm going to try rolling back to the previous WB to see if it still does it because I never noticed this problem before. If you have any other ideas I'd be glad to hear them.

Are you changing them with SS or just thru windows properties?

I tried changing them through SS. Is there a way to do that through windows properties? I went in SS and looked for anything that might have anything to do with panel popups, but it's hard to guess what they would be called in that instance.

dont use windows properties, they wont stay changed, use SS.Sorry I'm not more help,I STILL have probs remembring which settings affect what sometimes.AllI can say is play with all the settings till you get it right.Worst that can happen is you screw the skin up and have to redownload it and start over.Try finding one that looks right to you and open that one and see how they did it.

No problem I.R., I appreciate any input I can get. The problem though is that I have no idea what to even look for. I'll see setting that sounds like it would be the right one and then it isn't. And no, I didn't try doing it with the properties settings, I was doing all this in SS. But like I said, if I don't now what the setting is called I have no idea what to look for. And what setting would it be that deals with popups panels or confirm panels like when I close the window on my MSN page and the confirm panel comes up asking if thats what I really want to do?...I have no idea or which setting deals with things outside the skin itself. I tried changing the setting you told me about but they didn't do it. (insert smiley pulling out hair here)

Hi webgizmos

I spent 4 hours about 2 days ago, with the same (or similar) problem.
I had just finished updating all my progs, one of which was the new Windowblinds 4.2, suddenly all my taskbars and buttons (and some of the background panels) were Black and the text unreadable. Eventually resolved by blind clicking on configuration buttons. It was the Gamma Correction button, it was enabled and the slider was almost fully over towards 'darker'
To Locate the setting.....run Windowblinds and right click systray icon and select>>>>Configure Windowblinds... then on dialog screen that appears, 6th entry down on right is 'change skin colour', click that, a new panel will appear....top right hand side, is the 'enable Gamma adjustment' checkbox .... uncheck that and everything should return to normal, you can then adjust the slider and recheck the Gamma if you so desire.
Hope this helps some
Regards

Thanks Frigginel...thats exactly the problem I was having...I'll give that a try

Update: Ok...went to make changes on the settings you suggested...but the gamma button wasn't enabled...so out of curiousity I enabled it and set it a little higher...still no change. So back to the drawing board...
