sdmcp.exe?

I keep finding this process running (XP-PRO) but cannot see how it is loading. There is no reference to it in any of the "startup" areas and a registry search only finds it under "HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\session manager\appcompatibilty". I don't like my 'puter running things I have no apparent control over.

I never saw it running before when everything was "Object Desktop" and not "Stardock Central". FWIW, I MUCH preferred the old Object desktop "Component Manager" to the new SD Central garbage. Like anything else, you just get used to it and somebody feels the need to change it for you. >

I was glad to see these posts re sdmcp.exe. Since Stardock Central updated itself on my PC last Friday (Nov 21), some weird things have been happening, like really long time from Windows XP log on until I see desktop icons - over 45 secs; before, I could get from log on to clicking an icon to run a program in less than 8 secs. I also noticed this sdmcp.exe process running and equally don't like something running on my PC without knowing why or what it does!
Maybe it's purely coincidental that Stardock Central updated itself, this is running and my PC is now doing weird things. But I don't like it! What, exactly, does sdmcp.exe actually do, do you know? The only Stardock apps that I have running automatically with Windows startup are WindowBlinds 4 and WindowsFX 2.11. Both great programs, by the way.

sdMCP.exe is stardock's new trayserver/startup manager. On my system, it starts up in this registry KEY as OaMCPClient

{E6FB5E20-DE35-11CF-9C87-00AA005127ED} - WebCheck
Other files that actually are used by MCP are located in my
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock directory. They are:

If you stop MCP from loading (which I have done on my computer), the new version of DesktopX will lose it's "trayserver" ability - even if you have the old trayserver process running.
I renamed the above files, just in case I wanted to turn SDMCP back on.

BTW: You can disable it in SDC/Settings/General.......
