New explorer windows cause a system tone with recent WB4

Thursday, November 6, 2003 by MDonoughe | Discussion: Stardock Software

When I start a new exploder window(just explorer, not anything else) I get a system tone. At first I thought my computer was overheating or I had a kernel panic(I was using a Linux like theme), but then I noticed that it was everytime a launched a new explorer window. It isn't theme specific, and it gets really anoying because I like opening things in their own windows because explorer doesn't let you say "New Window" or "Open in new window..." or "Open in new tab..." or "CTL-N" to open a new window and it is very anoying. Sorry for getting off topic, but if anybody knows how to fix either problem, please help me.

The latest version... released today, solves that problem from what I've read in the newsgroups.

If you have WB 4.19d and you still have a beep you better go figure out what it is because it's not WB.

It has been resolved. I had to actually restart the computer all the way. I've never had to do that before to update programs that were in use. Why doesn't that work in Windows? I have installed new versions of my IM client in Linux and just had to close it and open it again to change everything to the new version.
Still, the build number and version number hasn't changed. Oh well... Shouldn't have expected Microsoft software(Windows) to make sense. Ecspecialy Windows. I think that they need to break binary compatablity(viruses and old programs that cause massive bloat) and make a new OS from scratch. The features they have put in are so far from the original concept that things can't work in a way that would make sense. The files on the drive should be unprotected from changes because the program isn't read off the drive while it is run. Sorry again
