ObjectDock really needs better installation handling

Friday, January 22, 2010 by SirBedwyr | Discussion: Docks

It's nice to click on a WB link, open-with, Windowblinds, and hey-presto it's installed.  OD needs this functionality.  Rooting around in zip files to toss into library folders is so Web 1.0.

Clarification: Dropping dock folders into the Stardock library doesn't seem to be working correctly.  I'd get blank un-selectable spots in the theme dropdown.  I had to add them to the program folders for OD to recognize the new skins.

Clarification to the clarification:  Actually, I think at its best both the interface and file format should work like WB's.

It should do that with OD 2.0 (thank god). I really look forward to being able to preview themes without actually applying them first.

I keep all my themes in the program files\objectdock folder. But that's another thing that I hope will get sorted out, I have OD folders all over my harddrive, everything really needs to be more centralized with all the SD programs.

Bebi...If your still on XP like me you can get rid of all the other folders in "My Documents" and just move everything to the ObjectDock folder. I deleted the stuff in "My Documents" a long time ago...and everything works fine.

I upgraded to 7 Giz, it's really great.

Well...if it still installs OD folders under Programs you can try doing what I mentioned, Just save the extra folder that might be in your "My Documents" or whatever it's called in 7 to another folder somewhere and see if it works. When I hit the lottery I'll consider upgrading as well. Right now I'm reaching up to touch bottom...well...I can almost see bottom anyway.
