Thursday, December 10, 2009 by BoXXi | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

Anyone know why the snow effect won't apply to my wallpaper in deskscapes3?

i am running windows 7 and have the latest version of deskscapes

i tried other dreams that have snow and they work ok, just can't apply snow effect to a wall of my own choosing.

Are you running the latest version from Impulse?

There was a problem in the original release but this was fixed.

yes Neil.... Just got it yesterday...... Should I re-install? Also I'm not seeing that "Settings" label that is supposed to be on the right hand side of the effects previews.

Incidentally, ALL the other effects work fine (Sepia, Invert, etc.)

There is no settings label on the right hand side of the previews.  Settings only shows on the wallpaper list for the Desktop slideshow dream.

Why not run the Winter Snow Dream and choose your wallpaper in it's "background" settings?

As far as I can tell, at least on XP, the wallpaper used for the snow dream background has to be a jpg, not a bmp, in case that's tripping anybody up. (?)

Just wanted to report that the Snow Effect doesn't do ANYTHING on my fully updated Laptop.
Impulse and all installed applications are fully updated.
ALL other effects produce the appropriate results, just the Snow effect does nothing, neither white, nor black snow as reported in another thread.

I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit, latest available graphic card drivers, Windows up-to-date.

Neil, can the background pictures in your Dream change after 2 minutes like the Aero Theme ? That would be much better . Can you show how to do that ?

Because I want to have snow while my background image changes  by time. Does anyone know how  to do that ? I would appreciate your help .

I've just got a new system up and running:

i7 x58 classified, 6bg ram, intel x25-m 80 gb, 4850 hd 1gb gddr, everything runs great, installed Deskscapes free version until i decide on OD or just components of it. Deskscapes seems to run well, but the "effects" selections dont match up to what is actually highlited when i choose one, so you can't be sure what you are choosing is actually the one selected, sometimes i change backgrounds in DS and a completely (seems to be) random effect will load with it. I want to upgrade, but wont if its buggy, or lacking in what you can do as opposed to what its "supposed" to do.

Any suggestions ?

windows 7 64bit

windows score 7.0

Only if you like black snow. For me and others, that's what it looks like.

See THIS thread.

Come to think of it, it would look great on a volcano wallpaper.
