New user disappointment and suggestion
Sunday, November 1, 2009 by movrshakr | Discussion: Fences
I thought I had found the real solution to desktop management, but soon realized it is missing the essential feature.
Unless I am missing something, it seems the implementstion means you hide ALL of the fences and RESTORE all of the fences--no way to manage them individually. I was hoping to be able to place related icons in their individual fences, hide them until needed, then pop them back up when needed. Same for those infrequently used ones...keep them hidden until needed, then boom, back with a click.
Dang...seems a major omission to me--that you either "lose everything" or get everything back. What's the point, unless looking at one's wallpaper is a really big deal.
This would be a terrific program if you could make all fences go away, or one at a time--and be able to call back whichever fence you needed, maybe by leaving a tiny click point on the desktop for which the group name would pop up on hover, or by leaving a place somewhere you could right click and get a list of hidden fences which could be opened individually, or all at once--your choice.
Ever so close to being great.

Not sure but Stardock may be adding these types of features in the Pro version that's coming out soon.
That's usually the way it is, the free version has the basic features and the version they sell has all the bells and whistles.

Not sure how a program would differentiate between one click and which fence...
Good idea, but not realistic unless combined with all sorts of mouse gestures...and how would you remember which gesture went with which fence? Or, essentially you'd have windows....closing with the x button, but then they wouldn't be fences.
Nope...not realistic, I'm afraid.

So now when you double click only the fences you exclude will appear on your desktop.
hope this was helpful to you
That is the whole reasoning behind Fences in a nut-shell...![]()

Maybe with keyboard shortcuts, but why?
That would surely complicate the program.

What you want is possible with Fences, just right click on any of the fence, View > Exclude this fence from Quick hide !!
So now when you double click only the fences you exclude will appear on your desktop.
hope this was helpful to you
