Miricla & Tinted: WIP

His 'n Hers Blinds

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 by Mirsguy | Discussion: Sneak Previews

I recently began work on a new WindowBlind I am calling 'Miricla.' This is a skin that I am making specifically for my wife, Brysgirl. She has not been able to find that 'perfect skin' yet, so I am creating it for her.

It is primarily blue in color and quite glassy. I chose the blue color because I just couldn't bring myself to work with pink. This skin is a recolorers dream, and looks good however you set the color slider in the config settings.

When I complete Miricla, I will begin work on 'Tinted,' which will be essentially identical in most ways to Miricla, just with dark glass rather than blue. Also, the Tinted WB will be made to match the ObjectDock backgrounds I have already created of the same name.

lookin nice, reminds me of Vienna,

Everyone gets their inspiration from somewhere. I of course am using it now, and IMO it bears resemblance to Vienna only because it's dark & glassy. Vienna has a lot more gray. I'm using more blacks. Though I drew some inspiration from Rapture, to me it looks totally different.

Part of why I decided to do this is because I cannot find a dark glassy theme that I think is absolutely perfect for my tastes. (Sorry John! ) Vienna 3 Rapture was the closest thing to perfect that I could find, though. Besides, I personally love the start menu on Tinted. So far, this IS my favorite skin ever!

I noticed the frames are a lot lighter than the start menu tho in the screen on page 1

Yeah, that was an early screeny. I have fixed that already.

Only one other thing, You might want to look for another wood wall for the final screeny

That's just what was on my desktop at the time. And I agree, it's overused.

Thanks Brian!

Glad you guys like the cursor! It's been my current fave!

I am so looking forward to Tinted...is it done yet?

No, sorry to say it'll be a while. I kinda forced myself to take time off from my side work, so I spent the evening SKINNING!

I did accomplish a lot tonight, but I wouldn't expect this for several more weeks yet.

I updated the screen shot at the top.

Here's a preview of the finished window frame buttons in both the active and inactive states.

At a stand still with my customer projects for the moment, so guess what I did tonight? You guessed it, I skinned!

Made a lot of progress, too. Right now, I'd say I'm about 90% done with XP / Vista light.

Looking forward to this

Thanks c242!

reminds me of Vienna

After thinking on this a bit, I see more resemblance to iPhonix or Eminence than I do to Rapture, IMHO.

The taskbar and buttons underwent a slight redesign in order to keep with a consistent look.

I fell in love with the window close buttons after I finished them, so I applied the same styling and lighting effects here.

I's like to see a background design behind the back\forward arrows in Explorer and IE, a lot of skinners seem to be bypassing that element for some reason, not utilizing the power and functions available that SKS provides......

I think the objective behind true skinning is bringing a new and different prospective to one's designs. Trying as hard as one can to not resemble.. anything that has come before.....  IMHO

The start menu isn't matching the the caption lighting, one has a curved lighting highlight, one is completely a horizontal highlight. Lighting direction, strength, overlay mode etc,  should always match up throughout the wb.

The arrows are how I want them in this skin.

Not trying to resemble anything or anyone. It was an observation hoping to quell any other observations about this being a Vienna clone.

I think the objective behind true skinning is bringing a new and different prospective to one's designs.

Which I tried to do with Miricla, and many of those things are being carried over or even modified in Tinted. This skin is what I desire in a dark glassy skin. It is fully my style. Now moving on...

Did I take a crazy pill by mistake? I don't see Vienna in this. Where's the similarity?

I'm fine tuning the design of the start menu to match more with the new taskbar.

Jim, this is why I haven't given you anything yet. I tend to get it "set" then I become dissatisfied and re work everything. It doesn't matter how detailed I get in my mock-up, I always still change things a gizallion times!

Plodding through slowly but surely. Been doing a lot of the more "boring" and somewhat unnoticable parts lately. But, greatness is in the details, right?

I've also heard that the Devil is in the details...

Logoff buttons still not skinned but I'll be getting to those shortly.

XP / Vista is very close to being done.

And really, I guess that 7 is too!
