Typical Windows/Buttons Continually Look like Windows 95

Despite Skinning Basically Everything

Saturday, May 23, 2009 by TLS4 GatorBait | Discussion: Windows XP

No matter what I do, the default window/button appearance continues to look like Windows 95 or one of those.  There is an option to change it to the XP version, which I would be content with (better if I could further customize it), but when I switch to that it will not stay.  I have Windows XP Home SP2 on an Alienware Area-51 m5790 Notebook using AlienGUIse (which basically has IconPackager installed), CursorFX, LogonStudio, and Bootskin. Any Ideas?  Here is a picture if it helps: (as you can see, the windows the setting is opened up in, along with all windows such as my documents, etc. are skined from alienguise but the few pop-ups I get on the internet plus things like errors, notifications, etc. look like below)

It's similar to windowsblinds, butting changes more stuff like icons using one file (a suite). Thus WB files (.wba) won't load in it properly

yeah, i know. AlienGuise was basically a licensed OEM version of SD thememanager and releated products..

i think now, it uses the 'mycolors' version

but it should load the .wba

.suite is just a renamed .zip

Darkstar, yes? did it come with your notebook? or did you download it?

the display window is skinned - thumbnail inside shows classic

i only see the 'classic' looking when i click the themes tab - but it calls it windows xp (modified)

It came preinstalled, along with other alienware types like ALX and invader. The cursor was separately acquired with cursorfx (which apparently doesn't take effect at the logon screen).  I have been using Opera 9.6 lately which I'm about to get rid of because of several flaws, which inlcuded download issues. I'll try downloading some .wbas in firefox later to see if that works, but I don't know whats causing these windows to do this.  I just got this laptops video card fixed after a year (couldn't find one) so for the heck of it I completely purged the computer of everything then used the alienware respawn to bring to factory default so it is like new.

don't know if you can tell whether it's been updated to use mycolors or if it's still using the 2005 versions of the apps, which would also mean there would some limitations on skinning
