Of course, it's a long way from even being started...just playing around with ideas right now, but I thought I would share.

cool idea Karen....personally, I'd prefer the stitching around frames to be also on the taskbar....and keep the turquoise for the taskbuttons....would look less busy....

You're totally right! For some reason I just didn't want to give up on the bead pattern in the taskbar because it was my muse to start the skin in the first place. My father-in-law's lady friend made a bracelet for me as sort of a "welcome to the tribe" gift, and it was my inspiration, but it's just not going to work...I'll have to think of some place else to put it, maybe the please wait animation or something.
WebGizmos, I think I'm going to use part of your idea,too...I think a turquoise arrowhead for the start button.

Just saw the thread! Nice, Karen....I love the idea, would love to see Navajo/silver-turqoise on the taskbar and like the arrow head idea (Giz).
I'd also love to see a wall that depicts the majesty of the west...and tetonka (buffalo) because of it's central role in a tribe's life...
Altogether? A HUGE thumbs up for originality and courage!

sounds good....
also, another idea for the taskbuttons might be.....if you take a look at v's LED Dot Matrix...see how the LED lights light up at the side in different states....maybe do a bead design lighting up in the different states....just an idea...

A bead design lighting up in different stages such as a chase? Or...swinging from left to right and back again?
At one point herds of Buffalo covered whole states. Millions in one herd. How about a bird's eye view say from atop a promintory?
The turqoise could be light gradient such as you might see in a sunset.

Now this is a very interesting idea, and one with great potential, I might add. I've always loved the thought of having North American Indian artifascts/heritage items as a desktop theme, and this idea goes a long way towards fulfilling that dream. Of course it's only early days yet, but the foundation is certainly there.
I'm not too sure how you would incorporate it, but I think the traditional tepee and associated artworks would look nice if it could somehow be woven into the overall fabric of the theme: ie, into the start panel and window backgrounds, etc. For the start button itself, a tepee with an open entrance to symbolise entry would also look good, though far be it for me to say how your design should be... they're just a couple of ideas that could help bring a natural, more earthy appearance that's in keeping with the native American theme.

Thanks, Jim...
Karen works hard trying to hold ends together and still does her art....on a tired old computer. I (for one) value her art more for that very reason.

Aww...that makes me feel good.
I don't know how long it's going to take me to finish, but I can tell you this...when it's done, there will be an arrowhead CursorFX to go with it.

You might try adding a slight bit of 'noise' using ps, that can make a lot of difference.

Lil quickie of what I think would look good, not that I know anything about indians 
If you want a large rectangle of something along those lines u can use for a texture or cuts bits from, just let me know. I did a bit more than add noise, but i can make a large psd for u if u like.

There are so many different tribes with different traditions, even if you knew one kind inside out, the next kind would be a total mystery. I'm trying to bring together the common elements of all the tribes I have read about, and the stuff my husband and his family have told me about - hence the name "One Tribe" -- plus there are common elements of Indian life and very early primitive European life (my kids focus on their Scottish ancestry, and the Scots were very tribal). Look at that stuff in Braveheart and that's a lot more "traditionally tribal" than the culture of my husband's tribe, (Muscogee) Creek, or any of the 5 civilized tribes (Choctaw, Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole).

I don't think you could meddle too much if you tried. Grasshopper would never tell the sensei to bugger off. I appreciate all the help you give me.

Rather than the design you have in the startbar with yet another....(gringe)....orb. How about using an native american indian arrow with the tip as the star button..and the end feathers as the systray?
