Monday, January 5, 2009 by S J N | Discussion: DeskScapes

Will DeskScapes work on Xp MCE? If so what do I need to know and/or install?

Thanks.

Yes, the current version of Deskscapes can work on XP. Media Center does not make any difference that I am aware of. The trial version is only for Vista at this time though.

To my understanding the trial does not yet have the XP version yet. The purchase version will of course.

It says that Deskscapes 2.5 is only available to Object Desktop Subscribers.  I have WinXP, can I buy the 19.95 deskscapes program and will it work for me?  I really dont want to buy Object Desktop.  Can anyone verify this?

I do believe, you get the latest version buying the standalone app. (2.5 being the latest).

Don't waste your time!!!!!!!! Deskscapes hardly works on vista let alone XP. Believe me I have tried everything even talking to Stardocks techs over the phone and not to be nasty, but they have no idea..............how to get deskscapes to work with Xp so don't waste your money like I did

I believe that the major factor affecting whether deskscapes will work on XP is your graphics card. I dont believe anyone has been successful in getting it to run acceptably with an ATI card. Nvidea cards seem to work ok.

So far I can only get a few deskscapes to run on my XP. Trying to find where I can get the MPEG-2 decoder.

Does deskscapes require DX 10? Where can I see it in action?

TMB...I think Stinky's was one of the ones I tried...But every time I use a codec checker it keeps telling me its not compatible with Windows Media Player synchronizzation.

That doesn't make a difference either. I have XP running on a machine with an nVidia high end SLI configuration, 4 gigs, yadda yadda yadda, nothing will make Deskscapes work on my machine, it'll even sometimes cause the whole shebang to crash outright. I was however able to get 2 of the backgrounds to work in the trial version, but as soon as I forked over the money for the full version those stopped working too. I think the program is simply buggy as hell and shouldn't have been released to the public. I intend to dispute the paypal charge and demand my money back for this. Shame too because I'd have really liked it if it'd worked. Should have just stayed with the free one.

Deskscapes works fine on XP. some minors errors though on other versions of Windows especially the newer ones.

Argent009: It would be best if you contact [email protected] as if they are unable to resolve your problem then you should be able to request a refund.

BTW I notice you mention you have 4GB and a high end SLI nvidia system but you are running XP.  I would suggest an upgrade to 64 bit Win7 in the future as you are probably losing massive amounts of that 4GB due to the address space limitations.
