[Old App] Screen Paper (scrpaper.exe)

Screensaver on your desktop.

ScreenPaper (scrPaper.exe) - file linked (readme.txt is original document provided with tool)

I do not use Windows Vista, so I have not had the pleasure of using Dreams, however I would like to bring back from the dead an old freeware application I used to use for getting an 'animated' wallpaper

Screenpaper lets you select a screensaver installed on your system and display it on the desktop behind your windows.

To help people use this application I have the following information:

  • It relys on the 'Preview' window that shows on the screensaver tab under display properties - if your screensaver doesn't show animated in this preview, it won't display on the desktop (some commercial screensavers put a static image in the preview window).
  • Some screensavers use DirectX, or OpenGl - some display properly, some don't.
  • The 'Stop all Screensavers' button doesn't work all the time - use the Windows taskmanager to find the screensavers file (usually .scr) and end it's process instead.
  • If you start a screensaver and nothing happens - try turning back on any options which are hiding your desktop icons - this includes desktopX, or the standard desktop 'Hide desktop icons' option. - The screensaver usually covers the icons anyway. Also, check the task manager - the screensaver may actually be running still - so kill it and try again after changing your settings.
  • When using with DesktopX some screensavers cover the desktopX layer.

I have been using this application to show the Aquarium screen saver that came with my Windows XP Media Center in the background of my DesktopX MCE theme - it doesn't seem to have too much a performance hit - my desktopX animations, opacity etc all works as good as usual. (picture below)

This application (scrpaper.exe) was not created by me - see readme.txt
