Sticky apply my changes

On WindowBlinds > Look & Feel > Visual Styles
If I double click the desired skin it applies fine BUT if I select it then press "Apply my changes" my cursor sticks in situ and the computer freezes until hard booted - ctrl-alt-del will not even cause reboot. the desired skin is applied after the reboot.
HP dv2799ea penryn 2.5 with 4Gb RAM Vista HP with latest drivers.
