Turned off firewall and nothing is downloading.
Still can't log-in on XP or Vista.

Impulse reports that my serial # for my Object Desktop subscription is invalid. The serial # on the registration screen is correct and Impulse allows me to download and install the components of Object Desktop but that line on the reg screen is highlighted in red and has "Invalid" in the expiration date column.

Puzzling.

I got that too, but then I noticed right below it, that I now have a subscription for Object Desktop ULTIMATE with the same serial...

I wish for item not sure if it's already been mentioned in post but, in Registrations, currently does not include all Stardock/WC purchases. Master Themes in particular don't show up as well as some Stardock Design themes I've purchased. Would like a comprehensive list. Thanks guys it's looking and working great.

Hey BigDogBidFeet, all though those don't show up in the registrations tabe of Impulse they are still listed under the setting tab and registrations from the WC home page. At first I thought they were gone also.

Anyone running Windows Vista Home Premium, that can help me with what settings and which applications, firewalls, etc., you had to turn off (or on) to install and use this?

Also, does being on satalite have anything to do with it?

My "Network Access" says it's Local and Internet. Do I need to configure a "Network" to use this?
I'm sure, if I can just get past the Log-in, I'll be fine, it's getting there that's the battle.

Any help, would be appreciated.

I was still having problems with an invalid ObjectDock Plus registration till i fixed it by having support e-mail all my reg. codes.
Wonder why they were different?

Z71  check the logs located at C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Impulse\Temporary and see if anything looks out of place

And what about Archiving ...

And equally, if not more important, what about restoring archives ... don't see that option anywhere ...

well, except for SDC ... hehe

The folder is there. It has other folder (with stuff) in them. Nothing looks out of place, but then again, not sure what to look for.

Makes no difference. When you're on the net....you're on the net.

You're installing this as Administrator...correct?

I may have some help for some of you who are having problems downloading or who need to reinstall. This is what finally worked for me. To do a clean install, I used Revo Uninstaller at the highest search level to remove all traces of Impulse from the registry. Be aware that it may false positive on a couple of Cursor FX files it thinks belong to Impulse. Make sure you check each thing it wants to remove. The number files do seem to belong to Impulse. After uninstalling, reboot. Not necessary usually but since Revo thinks this program is a system component, it may tie into the system in some manner that makes reboot advisable. Reinstall. It should work now. To get it to update correctly, I also had to uninstall ObjectZip because it was generating an error while trying to decompress until I archived ObjectZip. I have some tentative evidence it may also not be able to download and install some things correctly if you are running Zone Alarm's new beta of ForceField. If you are running ForceField, you do not need to uninstall it. Just disable it from your taskbar before downloading. Note that it will close your browser windows to turn itself off.

Everything now working. Downloads still much slower than SDC.

Yes.
No errors in the logs?

There was a lot of errors all saying the same thing. "Error parsing the XML from the webservice" & "Server not responding, please check your internet connection".
Deleted the log, still the messages.

Also, did the "Revo Uninstaller" 4 times. No success. Don't have Object Zip or Zone Alarm.

Just for the hell of it, do this and see if it does anything:

Start/ Run/ type (c/p): %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

and these:

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

The first one didn't do anything. What's the (c/p): stand for?

The last two, said they succeeded.

Still getting the same message. No luck.

It was working fine, now its stuck in an endless loop and I installed on my notebook, same loop. Both Vista machines with 2GB ram and SP1.

It downloads an update and says "An update to impulse is ready. Please Note: You will need to restart impulse before installing any applications. Would you like to restart Impulse now?"

If I click on "Yes" - "There was a problem while Impulse was Auto-Updating, Please try again. Updating/Installing of applications will be unavailable until you restart Impulse"

Only option now is OK. And all you can do is close Impulse and then its the same as selecting "No" from the first dialogue box.

The next time you start Impulse same message "An update . . . ."

So I am in an infinite loop with Impulse, where to from here?

ok "Run as administrator" cured that problem, even after it recommended that i dont run Impulse as administrator. And it then fine when run normally.

But now it wont let me update IconPackager. It shows I have 3.99b[b].047 installed and 3.99b[b].050 is available but there is no option to update.

Impulse updated itself again this morning. Aside: does anyone know where to find the version information for Impulse?

I found the following errors in the impulse error log:

-- [29/03/2008 4:14:05 AM] ----------------------------------------------------
Context: CreateRequest XMLRead
Message: dxp_sap 3.49i[rc].021 beta InstallFile
Exception: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

Context: CreateRequest XMLRead
Message: dxp_sap 3.49i[rc].021 beta UnInstallFile
Exception: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.

My Games information is back in the games tab, but doesn't know they are installed. Following the advise of Hollow Man in post 237, I added a sting value called 'Path' to the Dark Avatar and Twilight keys in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Stardok\Drengin.net\GalCiv2. Setting the path to the install location of GalCiv2. Once Impulse was restarted DA and Twilight showed as installed.

Just a little thing, on the updates and desktop tabs, DeskScapes and IconPackager show up, but with out the exclamation point graphic.

I found the "Restore Archive..." entry under the blue Stardock logo, however there doesn't seem to be a way to change the default location of where the backup files are stored.

In the Preferences... I found and 'Enable Archiving' check box. Does anyone know if this is an archive before download or a download and archive?
