Pictureless Icon

Saturday, February 2, 2008 by WandaJo | Discussion: New Users

I'm brand new to this, but have a question about icons. My goal is to have a background picture of a beautiful office. I would like to be able to click on the objects in the picture to activate a program (e.g. sunny window for weather, phone for address book, globe for internet browsing,....) So can I create an "area" that is clear for an icon and place it over that part of the desktop picture?

You mean Right Click>New>short Cut>Type Location>Properties>Change Icon?

You can create a transparant icon and use it as the icon for each of your shortcuts. Then place that shortcut on top of the item in the picture you would like to click on.

OK, so take any icon and set the transparency to 100%?

I've created one for you. If you pm me your email address, I'll send it to you. Or, I'll post it somewhere for you to download it. your choice.

In my experience, at 100% it won't work. I set it at 1 or 2%.

You could also take your wallpaper and in an image editor select and copy the portion you want to be clickable, use IconDeveloper and turn that small image clip into an icon, then place it on the desktop over the matching portion in the wallpaper. Voila (or is that Viola?) you have your clickable wallpaper. A lot of work I know, but it gives you an alternative.
