LogonStudio Xp Problems

Can No Longer Add New Logon Skins

Tuesday, October 16, 2007 by The-Reaper-Man | Discussion: LogonStudio

I noticed this morning that my LogonStudio app can no longer add any new logon skins! I ended up uninstalling it from my computer, lost all of my LogonStudio skins!, reinstalled it from scratch where it only has those "Welcome1", "Welcome2", "Welcome3" logons and then came here to WinCustomize to try to download some new Logon skins but the problem is still there! All I have is those 3 lousy welcome screens and cannot add any new ones to it! When I try, all I get is LogonStudio coming up on screen and not adding anything new. I'm still using Windows Xp, so upgrading to LogonStudio for Vista is out of the question. Does anyone have a solution to my delema?

Unfortunately LogonStudio is not supported. What I would suggest is that you do another fresh install and try applying the Logon themes through Theme Manager. It's a free download you can pick up through Stardock Central.

Thanks for the reply. It was a good suggestion. I tried this out (upon following your advice) and it seemed to solve the problem I was having. Now to start downloading ... lost most of my themes so I have some work to do!

Logon Studio does do some weird things sometimes. It is unsupported but reinstalling it does usually work. Glad it worked for you.

There should've been no need to loose any of the skins as they are held inside a theme folder, mines located inside wincustomize folder of program files, pretty much goes for all skins from stardock so saving them for reinstall is'nt a big assle

EDIT: There's supposed to be an h in there but my mind types faster than my finger

I'd also recommend saving the .logonxp files somewhere instead of just opening them with logonstudio, so in case something does go wrong you can just easily reinstall the themes.

I've tried with both LogonStudio and ThemeManager and I can not get any of the .logonxp files to load, logonstudio just gives me an error and thememanager acts like it loads it but doesn't show it in the list of logons.

Also when I tried making my own in logonstudio when I apply it (it does work in both, but gives the same error) it says "error on writing line 524" repeatably until I eventually get the windows locked dialog box.
