WinCustomize staff - will the dynamic dreams cost money too?

Wednesday, February 21, 2007 by delt31 | Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

Hi,

I know that the premium dreams cost cash.  Will the dynamic dreams (ones that change with the time of day) cost money too?  In addition, what happens if you add dynamic content to an exisiting dream (i.e. the sun bliss premium now changes to night according to the time of day) - will that be given to us at no cost, or will we need to buy it again?

I'm not staff, but not all the content will cost money, but there will be some. As was already said, Stardock Design has a 6:1 ratio for premium content. Meaning there's been 6 free releases and 1 premium one. Only Masters can sell their content as premium, so if non-masters make dynamic skins then those will be free. It's at the discretion of the creator.

Brad said in the master dream skin comments that updates to the dream will be free to those who have purchased it. You can download it as many times as you want once you've bought it.

Some will cost money, some won't. Depends on how much time and effort is put into them.

In addition, an SDK will be made available so that other people can create dynamic content. Whether those people choose to make them free or charge for them will depend on them (assuming they've achieved master access).

Users of Object Desktop will get access to dynamic content first and have some of it exclusively.

Would you mind elaborating on this a tad Brad?

Do you mean that only users of Object Desktop will be able to use specific features that .Dream objects will eventually support? (such as an updated trigger system with more options) If so, how would that work, exactly? I'm have a hard time putting all the pieces together.

Thanks in advance,

I think he means it's like getting betas as an ODNT subscriber (access to dynamic content first)

and possibly some dynamic content will only be available to ODNT subscribers (akin to getting the WC Select for being a WC subscriber)

Specifically what I mean is that some of the premium Dreams we make will be made available for free for Object Desktop users including some dynamic content.

The first dynamic content will be available for Object Desktop users probably this next week (we're testing it internally) and then it'll be available for everyone.

Brad I just spotted this! Will the Dynamic Dreams support weather feeds? I was looking for something jussssss like this! I created something like this for Pocket PC users it has the backgrounds changing according to weather and time, and moon phases as well.

WWW Link

I'd like to do something that has real time, weather updates on my desktop so does yours only support time? or can it do weather "and" time feeds?
Doreen gets excited!

PPC?! Gotta check it out for my IPAQ4700...

[edit: Checked it out. Looks really nice! Will clean up all the trash from my PPC and run it a.s.a.p. Already a customer there and have all the necessary programs. Thanks, Doreen! Santa Monica expat, moved to Idaho, so we do have snow and ice, but I'll wait for the icons...   ]

Hi you guys, Yup I guess you could call my theme a dream sorta for the PPC? But you'll be waiting for a while for my animated snow and hail etc cuz I can only recall seeing hail twice (which beat me up pretty bad) and since all I usually see is a boring sun it's amazing I animated the rain and lightning. hehe

Obviously w/ Vista and these dreams (and the size the good ones will be) we will need huge hard drives! I cannot wait to see the Dynamic ones ppl will be making this really will be exciting and creative!

Well, does that mean that any user can create a .Dream file and request money for downloading? If so, what terms are there to do so?

The terms are simple.. acheive Master Skinner status.

That much I did understand, but another question is much simplier - what does that mean? Where can I find any information about that status?

From teh WC About page:

Masters
These are the "elders" of the skinning community. People who have been around for awhile. Only a few people will be at this class. To be a Master, not only must the user be a significant contributor to the community, but instrumental to the day to day life of WinCustomize. A Master can do everything a Journeyman can do plus they can nominate and vote on users to be promoted. The honorific "Master" is placed in front of their name A master has to think of WinCustomize as their home skin website.

I would like to hear from an artist which made a contribution to Stardock that they get paid by Stardock for their work (if possible, without negative comment on my question).
