there were several threads about how vista would suck...and how many would not get it ...now that it's out of beta what do you think about it now?

i am 99.9% satisfied w/ windows vista. sure, theres no good WB skins for it but honestly. i am compeletly happy w/ the Aero interface. In fact its what i used as a WB skin in XP. And sure, theres a few problems with some legacy games. But that is a problem that rests with the developers and publishers, NOT microsoft. If there is lack of vista support its the company that made said item, NOT microsoft. If vista doesnt work for you thats fine, but dont use MS as the easy scapegoat. Theres alot that is simply out of thier control. I will say im still wonderin when the hell this Games For Windows initiative is actually supposed to take off. They really dropped the ball on that one. I wanna play on Live dammit! Halo 2 and Shadowrun are supposed to interest me? PUH-LEASE!

i've been using objectdock docklet to replace my start bar in vista 64bit.
takes forever to put all the icons and links in it how i want and along with dreamscene its very nice and sleek
might swap back to 32 bit only cause my control panel in 64bit version wont display nor anything in it work or even show up under search...it comes back sometimes after reboot but not often..very wierd
someone mentioned a problem with games, i know something that worked for me...right click on game shortcut, select compatability and only check "desktop composition" or something like that and now every game i own works perfectly, same frame rates as in xp too.

yeah I am just waiting for some software updates..
Vista Rocks and yeah NO back to xp... THOUGH I don't think I will give Vista up quickly for Vienna as I did XP for Vista..

Still SUCKS why ?

Ok heres what I think of Vista Ultimate which I am running right now. Basically, vista is to XP what "ME" was to 98. Vista is very little beside superfluous aesthetics and slight moderation to the operating system itself. Notable amongst its praiseworthy attributes is "readyboost" which allows you to plug in a USB flash drive (up to 4 gig) and vista will use it as extra memory. Thats about it !
any meaningful control over vista is hidden beneath a layer of BS so thick I'd be suprised if you havent smelt it - by which I mean instead of rapid access to such things as the NIC card via my network places you now have to open up the network centre and then click manage network then get to tcp/ip properties - thats just one example but the whole lot is like that. This is quite apart from aero being so top heavy that no games player could or would want it enabled as the resources it eats are phenomenal. For the same reason every right thinking network admin would disable it too.
This is all beside the fact that its handling of services and especially fault handling is supposed to be better - but you will find all this dumbing down has merely meant it makes windows harder to control - Once something starts crashing you first fight to get control off a machine thats so stuffed full of overblown code that it isnt responsive enough to any form of cancel command including the command to get the task manager into play then when it comes into play windows completely dumbs down the handling of the error.
The only reason I use vista is because some people who know no better bought dell office computers with vista preloaded and are now facing the consequence with network problems ranging from superficial to catastrophic in terms of downtime. After using vista now for more than a month I can safely say this computer is reverting to xp for about another year when I will test it again - by then MS will have released sp2 or sp3 because one things for certain - if youre running anything where memory is vital or uptime is crucial DONT USE VISTA - biggest pile of big dogs browneyes since they did that big promo campaign for the release of windows Millenium Edition and it tuned out to be a dog turd on a whale stool !!!

Although Windows Vista was released back in January 2007, Windows XP still maintains a stranglehold on personal computing. As of June 2007, according to Net Applications, Windows XP is used by 81 percent of all computer users, compared with 5 percent for Vista and 6 percent for Mac OS and MacIntel combined.

Just wait till the next Windows comes out and no one will like it either.
But they will still buy it ! That with Vista being completely fixed up by then ... no one likes anything new - it has too many bugs in it.
But some people just love that kind of thing. It leaves room for growth...
XP has about out done itself and is fastly getting old.
Very soon now you will have to let go of the Explorer 6 and install 7. That is if you do updates and such. The word is that it is gona be a manditory install soon.
What is so tragic is that people do not want to understand the new computers and the new software being developed. But as with the Explorer soon you will have very little choice in the matter.
It's like trying to use just one program todo eveything. When before it never worked like that anyway. People are so hard to get too understand " there is a very good reason for what is and what is not"??? sure right?!
But there is and maybe soon you can come on over to the new side of whats happening and see it.
Anyway I'm a very happy Vista user here and would not have it any other way. XP is ok but it will never measure up to the things that are possible with Vista. That and I'm ready and working with Microsoft for the next two new release's. Which we feel should change the whole world.
Hell I say " stand em on their head and let them try and push buttons..." it may do them better than trying to understand the new computing age at hand.

I work in IT and I'm being seen as a heretic with my collegues for saying that I'm actually liking Vista. The "cool"/cynical view with most IT support staff I know is
"anything MS do must by definition be awful and doomed to fail as only then can the true shining light of Linux emerge to lead us all into Nirvanna and the IT geeks can then dominate the world Mwhaa ha ha! (evil laugh)"
...but in reality, I'd say Vista is 'OK'. Looks much prettier generally then XP. Works pretty reliably. It's also implemented some nice fixes to issues which I found really irritating in XP. Most importantly, it lets me get on and use the actual software on the PC and not worry about the OS itself, which I always end up doing whenever I run Linux for a while - but maybe because I know too much about how Linux works to just use it and leave the OS in peace. In that respect, Vista leaves me in semi-ignorant bliss, (theme based pun intended)
Anyhow, I'm happy enough to feel that Vista will be great once the release version comes out rather than the beta version...er what?....what do you mean this *is* the release version?
Seriously - the OS itself seems no worse than any other initial OS release version and better than most (Mac OS X I found to be a nightmare of half finished design and implementation in it's first release version for instance). The only gripe I have isn't really with Vista but with the drivers from some manufacturers, which seem to be slow meeting the grade. e.g. The nVidia graphics driver has caused me some issues and I had to give up a 10+ year old Wacom graphics tablet as they've no plans to do a Vista driver for it ever.

Well I got it after all: VISTA
Have to say it is a, Love it, Hate it, relationship.
Like how it looks. but don't like some of the new layout
and that stupid DeskScapes, Like it but, have to put a wallpaper on before Turning off the PC.. or I play hell trying to do ANY thing Freezes, goes to a solid Blue Wallpaper.
I think that it is Conflicting with DreamScapes.
but like i said If I put a Wallpaper on before turning off the PC it runs Smooth for the most part.
oh and what is up with all the extra Processes I had 42 after installing Vista with no programs installed.
and Task Manager Is a HOG consuming 23% to 47% of CPU XP Pro NEVER went over 12% and I was B itch ing about XP Pro with 22 Processes running with all my programs installed.
I have my taskbar to AutoHide and every now n' then it Flickers up and down...
Did find out something today
that's if you have Music with a picture of the album and it is named Folder.jpg and have your Music folder open and your WMP open you can click and drag the FOLDER.jpg over to WMP picture of that album it will make all the .mp3 In your music folder that picture
COOL found it by accident when WMP did not put the Albim picture up quick enough for me so I draged it over to it and I was like, what the hell happen to all my .MP3's i got like 12 extra Pictures OH that is cool it's the MP3's
wish I did a dualboot BUT NNNOOO
so far only 1 or 2 programs will not install NO GAMES YET.
and Microsoft said my Canon scanner WILL NOT WORK and NeroMIX too, but i will see about the scanner but got Nero 7 now Canon Needs to get on the ball and make a driver for it..
Just so others can Know I got my PC win windows XP came out in 2ooo 11/15 and it handles VISTA Ultimate good and I only got 1GB of ram 1600MGhz Intel Pentium 4
and an ATI 9550 256MB video card with C:160GB Hard Drive(Master)and D:80GB (Slave)
and I still can install 2GB more ram then it will go faster and upgrade to 512MB video card ...
all on a Sh@#ty HP ..

I just got a new PC with Vista Home Premium on it last week.
I hadn't planned to do this and was quite happy with my customized XP machine but on Monday last week my apartment was flooded while I was away at friends.My PC and several other electrical items were powered up and of course they were all destroyed by the flood.Thankfully the apartment didn't go up in flames though.
So I claimed on my home insurance and presto! a brand new super computer was delivered to me on Friday.
So,back to Vista...... I love it! I have a couple of hardware/software issues but I'm sure future updates to drivers etc will solve these.
I particularly like the media stuff and the photo gallery,oh,and the sidebar(which I am adding DesktopX items to as we speak).
Looking forward to more Vista WB skins and IP packages in the future as these seem a little limited at the moment.

I much prefer it to XP, in fact it's the best I've used!
XP will still have a few features that will always beet Vista, but they are very small and probably don't make a difference to most people.
I really like the search feature in Vista, it's really quick. Some games have difficulty playing, but that's not the end of the world. I don't always play games anyway. The new explorer is also great.
