Report New WinCustomize Bugs and Other Issues
Tuesday, January 16, 2007 by T-Man | Discussion: WinCustomize Site Issues
While we have worked very hard to make the new site error free there are always a issue here and there that were simply missed. So this is the place that we would like you to submit site issues to.
Please take the time to read through items that have already been submitted so that you are not duplicating issues. This will make it much easier for us in determining new or old bugs.
Also, when reporting a problem its very important that you include the URL to the page where the problem occured. Also be as descriptive as possible. And if it is a display issue please be sure to include what browser you are running and its version.

Bohemy, have you gone to your settings (in the upper right corner) and changed your # of skins preference? Bebi, bohemy, I wouldn't hold your breath for lots of Opera tweaks . . . not for a while at least. Safari gets more use than opera here and none of the apps work on Macs!
Of course I tried that, either in IE or Opera, but I can see only 8 skins per page choice
And about an Opera, true is I love this browser(and I really dont want to switch it),so as your site, that's why I try to hightlight the bugs, point your attention on it and help you solve the problems. So,I am discovering a new site, trying to get familiar with it,at this time I miss some good stuff from the old site, but in time everything will be fine and everybody will love it.

Can you log in with a different browser and see if you can set the number of skins per page there and thn see if it is reflected in Opera?
Again, thanks for your feedback!

I do not like not being able to search for skins anymore. There is nowhere to search by author name, skin name or anything anymore.
The new search feature is pretty cool. Just remember it is specific to the area you are in. Looking for an author for walls, just type in the author name in the search box with the spyglass at the top of the page in the wall section and away you go.
I agree about the lack of totals and the need to have new comment notifications though on the My Skins page.

I just search for a skin name and an artist and got good results.
You can reach your personal page from anywhere (except the forums) by clicking My Site under the search field. Comment count can be reached by clicking on My Skins (next to My Site).
If you don't see them, clear your cache and try again.
Hope this helps!

Bohemy, please do not misunderstand me. I hope that the new WC can support every browser for every user. Knowing what is wrong for you with opera is a good thing. I am sure the devs here appreciate your feedback, I know I do. Can you log in with a different browser and see if you can set the number of skins per page there and thn see if it is reflected in Opera? Again, thanks for your feedback!

Ok, here comes a reply to most of the issues that were replied about... Grab a water or something, it's a read.
On the activity page of my personal site, under Skin Comments, if I click on a skin that is in the GUIC category it bombs out with an error.
PurrBall : I cant seem to generate an error. This may have been fixed, but if you are still seeing the error, please provide a url that you can reliable reproduce the error.
Hi,new site is not optimized for Opera browser
Bohemy
Hello, Wincustomize 2007 is not yet compatible with Opera. Please use Firefox or IE for the time being. We are planning to implement the nessesary changes for Opera support, but we have no timetable as of yet.
We appreciate very much the input about Opera problems, but please hold off on reporting any other Opera problems until we announce official support for Opera.
Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but nothing is showing up on my WC site for the Featured Skin. In fact, the Favorites list (I guess it's the new name for Recommended Skins?) is completely empty. I know I had a bunch of stuff in there, but it all appears to be MIA.
BebiBulma, clwoods, Frogboy
This should be all taken care of. Please let me know if you are able to reproduce it.
A few things i noticed. The page toggle arrows in Wallpapers don't work. I don't see My Skins. I don't see any place to update my skins. I posted a comment in my WB skin and it didn't show up.
HeirOfSlytherin
Im showing the pager arrows working fine, could this because youre on Page 1 of 1 for some reason?
Look about your username in the upper right hand corner of the site. Youll see 'My: ... Skins' thats a link.
Click on the skin you wish to edit and you will see an Edit link that will allow you to update your skin.
I'm showing posting comments on skins as working. If this continues to be a problem please let me know.

Fairry I'm seeing that the url you posted redirects to https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?my
do not like not being able to search for skins anymore. There is nowhere to search by author name, skin name or anything anymore.
Just one more thing..are our Articles that we have done since September of last year ever going to show up in our articles section? I have at least 8 articles that are not listed on my personal page, and I have noticed many others that don't have theirs listed either. Thank you.
clwoods You can search for skins by skin name or author name by entering either in the search box in the top left. An extended search is planned but there is no timetable for that featur being released. The articles page on the personal sites (trying to get people away from 'personal page' and towards 'personal site' - as its not just one page
) currently lists Wincustomize categories only. We're going to be changing that to list articles from all categories.
bohemy, in IE, you logged in, went to My Settings, changed the skins per page to 48, clicked update, went to the Windowblinds gallery and only saw 8 skins?
Bohemy, Zubaz If you are a WIncustomize subscriber you have many options on the My Account page for how many skins you would like to view per page. If you have an Access higher than Citizen then you are allowed more options as well. By default Citizens are only allowed to view 8 skins per page. We are currently in dicussion about increasing that number.
Thanks Aaron, I'm glad to know that! About the comments. I see the comment count. It's just that there isn't notification anymore when a new comment is left. There use to be a little blue paper like object next to the skin that had an unread comment. Now the only way to know is to look at each skin individually. As it stands now, unless we happen to know the exact count of comments for each skin, many new comments will be missed and unanswered because We won't know they are there. See what I mean?
clwoods Thanks for persisting about that feature. We're aware that it is missing. The old site was incredibly inefficient when it came to that particular feature and we are still researching how to implement it better.

Oh. I get it. Plus Ungood. I'll bet dimes to doughnuts that it'll get better.
As an "arist" with only three skins . . I know all my download and comment count.
[Kinda sad and pathetic, I know]

And thank you too Aaron. Now get busy and create some more skins!!!

If Opera is set to mask itself as Firefox (that is, send a user-agent to the server that looks like a Firefox user-agent, with no mention of Opera) most of the obvious flaws disappear. I refuse to do this personally, as it would lead to Opera making less of an impact on your server statistics.
It does however mean that the first, and very simple, thing you can do to improve the site in Opera is to make sure that any user-agents including the word Opera are handled both server and client-side the same as Firefox would be.
What confuses me however this line in the source:
if(m_Opera == true) document.write(''); (Apparently it's impossible to write less-than or greater-than symbols in the comments if you're trying to show HTML code, there should be code to load an Opera specific stylesheet visible in the document.write() function.)Clearly some testing has been done in Opera, but you seemed to stop half-way; leaving the somewhat sloppy looking results that can currently be seen.

Right now I know-andrew explained that Citizens see only 8skins per page-but(with my higher access level) I should see more skins, but I have only choise of 8skins on my site right now.

Using FF 2.0.0.1
Here are just 2 of many links that do not work on all my previous skins etc.
Example 1 of broken links:
https://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=25&view=1&sortby=8&sortdir=DESC&p=1&advanced=0&searchtxt=Checkmate
The above link bring me to the CursorXp Gallery not to the skin that the URL says its going to....when I get to the page the URL still reads same way but it did not bring me to the skin - only to Cursor Xp Gallery. ( URL Below)
https://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=25&view=1&sortby=8&sortdir=DESC&p=1&advanced=0&searchtxt=Checkmate
******************************************************
Example 2
http://phuture-design.wincustomize.com/MySkins.aspx?ACID=727634
The above link brings me to a page that says:
HTTP404 - File not found ( URL below - notice the ACID=727634 is missing from below)
http://phuture-design.wincustomize.com/404.html?aspxerrorpath=/MySkins.aspx
Hope this helps to research the problem - if you need more info let me know
