Joe User is "Joke User"

Get Your Free Blog! Next Year!

Friday, June 30, 2006 by TheGuyPC | Discussion: Virtual Communities

Everyone at Joe User is just so happy and fun! You have to have a sense of humor with a name like Joe User!

I was considering starting a blogsite dedicated to the discussion of marriage. I was going to call it Harry Crabs. My wife balked, so I digress.

There is really no virtual community to compare to the honest, open perspective that Joe User has. There should be more like it. This world would be a much richer, more diverse place.

I, as soooooooo many others are just grateful to be blessed by the absolute intelligence that this community offers.

Thank you so much. And to do it all for free?! Wow!

1. The site has no way of discriminating against a user before they even sign up. I don't think there's a "Republican Detector" built into the code that can ferret out your political opinions before giving you a blog.

2. The database behind this site has been flaky for months on end. They just recently got a new beefy database box that runs ALL of the sites. If there are still issues, I'd chalk it up to growing pains getting the new DB fully situated. Believe it or not... that's a pretty complex task.

3. You don't pay for JoeUser. There is no subscription fee, it is not included as a part of a bundle you can purchase. A lot of people here don't own a single SD product. You're not entitled to anything here,

Before going nuts on the forums, I highly recommend you actually get your facts straight. And consider for a moment that the issues preventing you from having a blog are semi-random and a bit more technical than you seem to understand.

"I don't want to support his warped ideals"

First, I sincerelly don't understand why people seem unable to separate individuals from companies. Whatever Brad Wardell's ideals are, and whether you and I agree with them or not, he has the RIGHT to have and voice them. The same right you have. Brad's ideals as a person have nothing to do with Stardock and Wincustomize, however, so I don't see why you would want to 'punish' the company - or, even worse, punish an individual for thinking differently from you.

Second, from what I know of Brad, he LOVES a good argument. I've never seen him shy away from one, quite the opposite in fact - so, if you disagree with him and want to let him know, just post a comment on the relevant blog entries. I'm also 100% sure there is no conspiracy NOT to let you have a blog where you can voice your own opinions. That would definitely not be Brad's style.

As for Stardock not replying to your emails, there might be perfectly justifiable reasons for that. Maybe they're being blocked by a spam filter... Besides, have you ever tried emailing Microsoft, for instance? I shudder to think at the sheer amount of emails received daily by Stardock support.

Anyway, you could try getting in touch with one of the moderators here. They usually hang around in the #Stardock and #Wincustomize channels in IRC, where you can talk to them live.

Have you cross referenced your Stardock and Wincustomize accounts? You show as a citizen...not a subscriber. You should show as a subscriber.

To me alot of this post does not make sense...that might be a good thing....anyway I will offer you some words of advice. If you want something from someone, there is a certain way of speaking to people, that will make them want to help you, that will make them take on board what you're saying, and consider what you're saying. I wonder if Brad will see this blog, and want to help you with your problems, since you addressed them in such an adult manner. Hmmm....spitting your dummy out of your pram won't get you anywhere.

But you're right, it's a grand conspiracy. Brad and company are so smart they've designed a program which can detect the political leanings of potential bloggers simply by the nickname they choose, and weed out those nasty, tree-hugging, commie-pinko-fag-loving, bush-hating lee-bur-rulls.

That's right. I fooled the detector with my tinfoil hat. It keeps the republicans out of my head and Brad totally fooled! You should try it!

Rants like this lose you more credibility than benefits you may gain.

Fanboys, trolls, and ranters sow what they reap.

Good luck with that.

I'm independant. I try to decide on a per issue basis instead of pretending that binary ideals can accurately describe an entire nation of people.

But...

I can't create a blog either, and help would be appreciated.

I'm confused. If you can't 'get a blog' how is it that you are posting on a blog?

When you first sign up, you set up an account but you don't actually have a site yet. Right now, I can browse JoeUser and post comments, but I don't have a blog site of my own on which to post articles. Which is too bad, since it seems like a great place.

Looks like your account is OK...with access/membership to all the sites.
if you can't create a Blog page my guess is either you are 'doing it wrong' or have actually tried on one or more occasions when the sites [plural] were involved with upgrading, etc.

I'm sure an admin/moderator from Joe User will shed light on this apparent 'drama'....

Jafo--

Could you do a similar check on my profile? As I mentioned, I've having the same problem.

Don't worry about the 'unknown'...that's just reference to/from Wincustomize.com, not JoeUser....

Try wearing a tinfoil hat when you try to post a blog...maybe they won't be able to tell which party you lean towards.

Well, I suppose it's vaguely comforting to know that I should be able to start a blog site. I'll keep trying, I suppose, and in the meanwhile I'll have some time to get acquainted with the conventions of JoeUser.

JoeUser.com is free.  There's no subscription to it.  You just go to www.joeuser.com and create a blog.

Secondly, given that I'm not a Republican, I wonder how I managed to get by the "anti-Non-Republican" code and manage to get a blog up.

My articles can be found here: http://frogboy.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx

I am not sure what's so radical about what I write. Sure, like most people, I like to eat human flesh and eat babies but that's hardly out of the norm...

"JoeUser.com is free. There's no subscription to it. You just go to www.joeuser.com and create a blog."

As you can see, I've already signed up, but when I try to actually create a blog site, I get the message, "JoeUser.com is undergoing some changes to it's database. Please try back again soon."

What a moronic load of crap, lol. I'm sure that Stardock can read your friends' minds to tell whether they are liberal or not. Like Brad, who probably gets four digits worth of emails a day, is going to answer them all. "Sissy boy"? Are you for real?

The fact you aren't exiled for this petty rant destroys your argument, idiot.
