explorer.exe problem

Saturday, May 20, 2006 by crzycrkr | Discussion: Stardock Support General

I have a sony desktop with and intel dual core, 2gb memory, running windows xp media center 2005. I just got object dektop and have installed windowblinds, iconX, icon packager and windows fx. All the newest and/or beta versions. Everything will work fine for a couple days and then I will start my system and explorer.exe will continuosly crash/restart. After I uninstall everything I am fine again. I uninstalled windows fx thinking that was it and a few days later the problem started happening again. Now I have just windowblinds and iconX installed, but would really like to figure out how to get all four of theses programs up and running again. Anyone have any ideas how I can take care of this? I haven;t really seen anything in any of the forums about this particular problem. Thanks

If/when the crash happens again, write down the text of the error message (assuming you get one) & post it - may make it easier for someone savvy to help you.

I was having this happen with Icon Packager installed. Removed it and all was well.

No error message. Is there somewhere in the computer where it might store one? It's just the whole taskbar disappearing/reappearing over and over again. If I open the task manager it shows explorer.exe shutting down and restarting over and over again. Is there any other way to apply my icons to everything that icon packager applies them to. I wouldn't mind doing it manually and not using icon packager if possible. Just not quite sure how to get icons to work in control panel without it. Thanks for the responses.

Control Panel.....Administrative Tools....Event Viewer.

Good luck....

In event viewer all it says for that is
"The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted."
There are quite a few of those in there
Thanks again for the help
