I think the N version is the european version that doens't include Window Media Player.
Prolly just Windows Vista. Any flavour will do.

Well...At first glance, skimming through the different options and by no means taking *enough time to review the choices, if I had to make a quick choice..LoL(I think your getting the idea)
I would say Home Premium or Vista Ultimate, I think price is going to be a deciding factor and really cause us to analyze each version with extreme scrutiny..

Yeah, I'm thinking along similar lines....Home Premium if I can't afford the extra bells and whistles that come with Vista Ultimate.
Price will be the deciding factor for many, I guess....so hopefully 'Uncle Bill' will find it in his heart to keep each version reasonably priced for the average user.
Oh well, got a while to save up......

If it costs a lot of money - and from the min specs and previous pricings that seems to be likely - I think I'll just buy a mac and dual-boot linux for when I need Windows stuff. With the intel architecture it should be easier for games companies to port their software across.

Well, Vista will be out late this year, 2006. XP came out 2001. That's FIVE years. Eons in computer time. However, people are saying that they expect Microsoft to update more often as this long delay of Vista probably wasn't too good on them. But who knows...

Check with the smaller PC Shops, you know the "Hole in the walls" I have bought over 10 copies of XP pro all for around $79 USD ... OEM of course, But I really dont need the pretty blue box anyway, LoL...
Im sure you could find the same price or better Online as well.. Ebay..etc..etc..

I don't remember MS making an expected release date since DOS 3, not Windows 3, DOS 3. So I wouldn't be holding my breath last quarter of the year.

OEM means it's included with a PC system...so 'legally' you must also have purchased 10 computers....
[I have 2 OEM....only one came with a machine....the separate one was $200 AUD]...

As with most anything else Jafo, the sellers have found a "loophole" in the letter of that specific law..
It seems that they are able to sell an OEM version of the OS if they include a miscellaneous piece of hardware, such as a "device cable" "floppy drive" etc,etc..
Now, I'll admit I never ever received any of this so called "miscellaneous hardware" and I never asked for it either, LoL...
But thats how they do it and get away with it...
