Stardock Central updates - 2.29 build

Monday, February 13, 2006 by [email protected] | Discussion: Stardock Support General

As we prepare for the GalCiv2 release next week (and the preload of content this week), there is going to be a new Stardock Central 2.29 build published tonight.

Initial application installs with it are more or less the same, though it has some new code to try and failover to other servers in case of errors. It's major new addition revolves around how it handles updates in the future, which should be a lot faster to determine which files need to update and to attempt to get them from another server if it has problems with one.

There is liable to be a side-effect to this new update code, it's going to want to fetch some files for updates for already installed components even though they are already installed. Once its done that the first time, it shouldn't ask in the future.

Please CC problem reports with the new Stardock Central bits to [email protected] and [email protected]. We will be working on tweaking anything necessary in the coming day or two.

When I 'View Updates', I see that the update is available. I'm only asked if I want to open SDC now. Does SDC update automatically? Is there a way to manually update SDC?

What build does your SDC report in Help / About? SDC automatically updates for any files that aren't locked (like new images), but if there are updates for the main binary, it'll need to update and restart itself.

all seems to be good so far...

Riahon...SDC under 'tools' 'settings' 'settings - general' 'auto update' do you have it marked to check for updates?

Stupid SDTray shows the update but stupid sdc doesn't see any updates.

Tried both servers. Tried refreshing XML. Autoupdate set. Show pre-release set.

GAH!!!

[not that I could play GalCiv2 early . . but . . . but . ..]

Little guy in the systray that let's you know when there are updated apps. Very nice when it's NOT TEASING YOU!!!

But you know . . I'll be damned ifI can find how to enable it. But it's running on two of my PCs.

Don't get it here either - neither "Tools->Check for App Updates" nor "Tools->View App Updates" reports anything new...

Currently running: 2.24a[b].182 build 113

Same happened to me, but I Redownloaded SD Central from www.stardock.com and the update was detected.

Now I'm running the 2.29 build 187

Arrrgh!! I *ALWAYS" think its a sub-function of SDC. Yeterday was something like the third time I've "lost" it.

I swear it's like the alien probe took that memory too. Bastards.

Thanks yrag.

thanks yrag

up to date now, though seems a little strange to have to download the 2.10 version of SDC, reboot, then use version SDC 2.10 to see the 2.29a.374 version...and i thought this industry was logical

I reported the same thing in a post under Stardock Support days ago, and didn't get a peep out of anyone.
