This is a very good replica of QNX for Amiga. But for those of you who haven't followed the Amiga since Commodore's demise, QNX is a POS operating system that they tried to officially pass to us Amiga users as the "Next Amiga" but it did NOT take full advantage of the hardware. Nobody in the Amiga community even liked it! QNX had less success with Amiga than BeOS or OS/2 ever had with PCs!

i realise that its now been a very long time since that first comment, but i feel it needed to be currected.

its totally wrong to say 'Nobody in the Amiga community even liked it!

its as thought the poster did not know anything about the QNX situation simply by the fact he calls it QNX and not the qnx RTP.

infact RTP became the official OS replacment after the BEOS mishap at the main trade show were BEOS got pulled.

again 'but it did NOT take full advantage of the hardware.' is totally wrong, and infact RTP did take full advantage of all possible options at that time, infact the whole point of the RTP nameing was due to Dan (the QNX COO) wanting to use the re-emergence of amiga to help take both partys to the masses and he had his well respected team rewrite much of the code to be far more amiga like than was needed, the only parts that were not seen by your average user were things like the amiga shell/cli ((kingcon etc)and the workbench UI and related apps that were left to the experts in amiga land to implement, as it was they that had that knowlage and code base waiting to sit on top of the faine RTP base that had been specially written.

the one and only reason RTP did not become the base for a new amiga OS and platform was due to the new amiga managment and FLEECY (slagging off Dan in the TeamAMIGA Mailing list) and even then Dan was willing to forgive the comments but fleecy wanted to go the well publicised but flawed (at that time) virtual OS route.

there was no contract signed at that time so fleecy and co got away with it, and now we have 0 to show for it, QNX however took their free RTP 6 release and made a very good platform out of that and today they are better for it.

in my view though thay should have steared the look and feel away from the linux tools and insisted that all devs use their photon UI far more than they do today.

that photon base could have had MUI sitting ontop of it, instead they have linux UI because of fleecy and co, shame, not to mention loosing kingcon
