joeKnowledge: The Meaning of Having A Personal Knowledgebase

Why should you make one - PART 1

Thursday, February 24, 2005 by joeKnowledge | Discussion: Websites

This is a short introduction to what I believe is something that everyone should do or get into.

Basically, joeKnowledge is a website that allows people to create working portfolios and also create a place to store links around the web for access anywhere.

As you can read HERE, many businesses are quite into groupware (like People soft/Oracle). It helps with projects by creating a base of knowledge that the project shares.

Knowledge base systems, amonst other types of systems, are gaining in popularity mostly because it is more useful in making valued decisions. It is hard to forcast years into the future without the ability to make sence of the past

The point I am getting to is that the people who can show that they can add to the overall knowledge of the company, will be omore valuable than those who can't. You will be hearing , more and more, the term called knowledge workers. Knowledge workers wil hav to be able to know how to research, collect data, turn it into information AND THEN create knowledge and direction that will finish the project.

If you guys haven't noticed, your job description is getting more and more 'open for interpitation'.

By creating your own knowledge base, you can spead up the process of finding data, finding a specific piece of information, and more. As the months go by, know you have more organized data to parse through. If you looking for work, you now have a way to show what you know, rather than just tell them.

The Idea and plan:
All your saved links are now placed on-line
All your link archive news stories, for example here, are now searchable and related to your field of interest or personal inquiry.
A working on-line portfolio and resume showing what you can do (from web design, to code scripting, PowerPoint creation, art work, and more).
A profesional blog (key word is profesional, personal blogs can be done but should be totally separate from your profesional one) with school projects, thoughts on class discussions, thoughts on past projects and such.

All of this would be searchable by you.

Another addition to the array of ingredeants is interacting with others who are doing the same thing.

You know places like Slash.Dot?
Neowin?
Beta News?

All these places are archives of knowledge made because of interaction between people; Huge message boards of info.

Ask questions of others, give answers, create tutorials, introduce new concepts... develope projects together though a group dev, or on your own.

All searchable and organized.

That is my idea and why I make those link archive posts on my blog.

I am pushing for Pluck as a link saving and RSS sharing device, while Blog Navigator is the blogging tool as well as archiving on-line webpage saver. Now, with Blog Navigator, you have the actual html page on your hard drive if you wish (depending on its importance).

I have also added job hunting to the idea. Using Pluck, people can save the jobs they want to look at later, but also at the same time help other look for work.
Social networking at its finest.

Check out the link... its a collection of RSS feeds from around the net related to tech, business and more.

What do you guys think?
