skin customizing - disconnect from Start Menu ??
Wednesday, March 8, 2023 by Derell Licht | Discussion: WindowBlinds
One interesting thing that I noticed about some of the older skins, is that some of them appear to not interact with the Start Menu at all, but leave it as it is in the system. This is of interest to me, because I use Open Shell (formerly Classic Shell) for my start menu, and WB sadly subverts its settings in many cases... but the fact that some of the older skins do *not* do this, suggest to me that possibly there is a way to use SkinStudio 10 to edit a skin and just disconnect it from the Start Menu somehow, so that Open Shell can configure the menus itself.
Is there some way to do this with SkinStudio 10 ?
Side note:
I know that some folks are going to want to ask me why I don't use Start 11 ??
Well, there is one simple reason - it does not support cascading menus on Programs menu, and that is very important to me; I've discussed it here multiple times, but the devs don't have any interest in pursuing that, for some reason, so I will be staying with Open Shell, which *does* do cascading menus, very nicely!!

Unfortunately Open Shell doesn't handle themes as well as Start11 does.
You could remove the entire sections in SKS for the start menu. In fact removing the top (User Pane) image section for the start menu may be enough for WB to stop providing start menu skinning but you should be aware I think Open Shell also ends up asking for other theme parts especially on cascading menus.

So no insights from anyone on this?? @basj ??
Is this actually not doable?? Or do folks here just object to me sticking with Open Shell???
