A maximum skin rating is 10, each star equals 2 points. So 2 stars is a rating of 4, 3 is 6, 4.5 is 9, etc. Ratings are given by users but a Master Skin starts out automatically with a rating of 9. It could go lower depending on user ratings though. Hope this helps.

uk58 .... uploads to the galleries go through an approval process and receive an initial rating then.

Subsequent user ratings add to that so over time the rating will represent what most users think of the work.

That rating will not always match what you might think of the work personally...as all tastes are different...

Hello,

I think your screenshots need to be better. Screenshot will help people to see if your skin worth to download or not. Also, include a Start panel in your screenshot. Include Active and inactive states. Taskbar and Taskbar buttons also important. Screenshots is really important. Make it interesting. Sometimes I spend hours just on screenshot. Just my 2 cents

Thank you,

Myself being a skinner i use the ratings to help me judge my own work. Some will rate higher than others. The one's that get better rating i look at closer and see what i did in the skin that people liked. I see it as tool for myself to use.

Also users do not have to download a skin to comment or give a rating of their own. I do not use Dreams but i take time to rate them and sometimes comment.

hi

who does the initial rating, these were not the people who rated the skin or download that's my question If the skin is already in the upload before the people can rate and have 5 stars, and others only 3 stars Than is this not fair rating Since the 5 stars and 3 stars do not come from the people And most skins of some designers are always rated 5 and many most until 3. how can you see that a skin was rated and how many people has rated, if there is only 1 rating the initial rating then is this not an  real   value, I'm not native English-speaking maybe that's why nobody does what I mean.

Who cares, you shouldn't spend so much time on the ratings, it is, what it is, downloads will tell you if a skin is doing well or not, with the exception of Master Skins, then it would be how many one sells, to determine if people like it or not. also, comments on a skin, is another factor of a good skin or not, not the factor, but one of many.

Moderators and/or Site Admins specifically, all of whom have long-time experience in the field of Computer Graphics/modding.

The intitial rating applied is usually the most reasoned or accurate as subsequent ratings can be affected by people who are just fans of the uploader and rate accordingly.

It is ONLY with time that a skin reaches its natural [rating] level of approval via popularity.  The more ratings applied the more accurate the subsequent average.  This is the same with all situations/examples of statistical gathering...

I tried to help him/her by telling him/her about his/her screenshots in a comment  to one of his/her Curtains skins. I was adamant that it was not meant to be an insult but he/she took as one anyway.  I know my current profile shows me as a relatively recent member but i've actually been around since the early XP days so i thought i had the experience that could help by saying something about the skin screenshots. i was only trying to help. obviously, i should've kept my mouth shut.

This way of rating is not safe because it is the subjective opinion of the person or people who are rating it. it is clear that skins are not rated well if skins that are good do not get more than 3.5 stars in the first rating, and again I think not mine and skins are rated highly by certain people because they longtime in the community or They are assistants.

"Not Safe", who's being harmed in the ratings, in your opinion? How do you propose a proper/fair/safe rating should be executed? In my humble opinion, no matter how you do it, or who you choose to rate skins, it's always going to be subjective to someone who doesn't agree with said ratings, you can't please everyone. I don't pay no never mind about ratings (personally) If my skin gets One Star rating, then, that means I made someone happy, and that makes me happy, and my day is made great! Deuces

it is clear that skins are not rated well if skins that are good do not get more than 3.5 stars in the first rating,

How do you determine when a skin is 'good' if not with your own personal prejudice?

The initial ratings applied are applied by, for want of a better word....experts...who have been doing this approval process for decades.

I have been on this site since day one...and can attest to early teething troubles....15 or 20 YEARS ago.

Since then, the submission/approval/rating process has been pretty much incident-free, requiring very little oversight.

There is ALWAYS going to disagreements through differing opinions with regards to what someone likes...that others may not, but that's human nature and 'free opinion'.

What Stardock and Wincustomize strives for is equity.

As I stated previously, the longer a work is accessible to the public, inviting comment and rating - the closer to an exact balance of public opinion of that work will be reached.

Everyone has a history/qualification/experience/education with computers, computer graphics and art in general.   The Moderators here likely equal or surpass your own experience, particularly in the field of GUI design....
