Stardock announced the next-generation version of its Windows® cursor customization application, CursorFX 4, today. With CursorFX, Windows users can instantly change their default mouse cursor on their computer with animated and themed cursor designs.

CursorFX makes it easy for Windows users to customize their mouse cursors by applying skins, shadows, motion trails, and sounds. Users can also import .PNG files into the CursorFX theme editor to create brand new cursors from scratch.

The new version of CursorFX adds support for Windows 10 and high DPI monitors, several new cursor packs, and more. Thousands of additional cursors are also available for download on WinCustomize.com.

"We wanted to bring better cursor customization options to Windows 10 users," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. "CursorFX has a ton of options for animations, special effects, and sound effects, as well as a robust customization community filled with thousands of users around the world.”

CursorFX 4 will be released soon to all users for $4.99. The beta version is available now for subscribers to Stardock's Windows enhancement suite, Object Desktop. Visit www.cursorfx.com to learn more.

If you customize the color for one cursor it applies to all and no option to save preset. Missing preview for many curors in left column. Settings app takes very long to start (by long, I mean 30 seconds on a fairly fast stationary PC)

And not even 5 minutes have passed since I installed it.

Do we uninstall CursorFX 3 first? If I have CursorFX 3 Plus, is there a CursorFX 4 plus?

Ok, CursorFX 4 will not apply any cursors and is very slow to load the main dialog.

Only a scant few cursors actually show up as choices.

I have used CursorFX Plus v2.16 for quite a while.

I downloaded CursorFX 4 Beta today, and installed it.

Is there a Purge to remove v2.6 - currently both are on my PC.

Only v2.6 will change my cursors - v4 Beta looks great, however no cursor change occurs - only with the co-installed v2.6.

Any clues?

Raymond_SF, at least you can load a cursor, I can't get one to load.

Advice:

Don't lose CursorFX Plus v2.16  yet.

When you do let it go, use a third party uninstaller. The purge stuff seldom works, as you know.

I'm experiencing all the same problems as everyone else on here. It just didn't work. I uninstalled it and went back to my previous version, which, to be honest, also has a more interesting and attractive interface. I only changed from Windows 8 to Windows 10 a few days ago when I got a new computer, so this was a little disappointing.

It is working here just fine.  I did not have any version of CursorFX installed on my machine until this new Beta.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Missing preview for many curors in left column

RedneckDude

Only a scant few cursors actually show up as choices.

Themes are stored here:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\

Previews are stored here:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview

If the missing ones are not in \Previews, you can try redownloading the Cursor package, double click it, and it should add it there.

Another method would be to delete the \Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview folder, open the CursorFX UI and all the \Themes will be re-decompressed into the \Preview folder.  This may have the UI take some time to show as it does this.

That said, you may have some very old CursorXP packages that have a different compression format that may not be compatible.   .
This.

So, are you saying the old CursorXP packages will not work?  If so, I may keep the old version because I have a lot of cursors.

Backwards compatibility is a must.

Backwards compatibility is a must.
This. Or I have no reason to use 4.0 even if it's fixed. I'm using 2.16 and it works like a charm.

I tested the CursorFX 4.0 and I can confirmed that it work with my old xxx.curxptheme. If the issue on the preview not showing. You just need to delete this folder : "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview" and the previews will be regenerated once you run CursorFXconfig.exe again.

Try it and report back.

I will give it a shot, Jaz.  Another note. I just clicked the tray icon and chose to configure CFX. It took a good 30 seconds to open. And I have a 16 core CPU with 16 GB DDR4. Oh, and an SSD.

CFX 4 will not load ANY cursor file that I own.

Ok, that seems to have fixed the previews.

Loading CFX took forever, then it crashed as soon as I clicked inside the window.

Been waiting long enough to post this and it still hasn't opened...............................................................................

Finally it applied a cursor.    So why is it so slow to load?

Btw, for those who asking about purge CursorFX. You can use this guide to purge that old CursorFX v2 :

https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling

I think, if you have both version installed. Please try this steps.

1) Uninstall CursorFX v4 first. Reboot.

2) Do the purge using the step above. Reboot

3) Reinstall CursorFX v4. Reboot

Retest and report back.

If some of the old cursors preview don't show up. Close CursorFXconfig.exe, do the delete "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview" folder. Start CursorFXconfig.exe

Here what I get from my system.

Finally it applied a cursor.    So why is it so slow to load?

As a test, if you rename:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

To:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes.OLD

Open the CursorFX UI. Does it open quicker?
