Help, I've fallen and I can't get up.
Monday, February 14, 2011 by IROKONESS | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
Hi, well I haven't really fallen, more of a stumble. I received gmc2's gracious gift of my CS4, but, I alas, cannot open it. Yes, I know I said I love it. Nothings changed there, but the opening.
Here are my particulars... AMD Athlon (tm) 7750 Dual Core Proccessor, 2.70 GHZ Ram_4.00 GB (3.50) useable. [ram may be important, for lack of space?] Windows 7 Home Premium. Direct X11. Active X 64 bit. ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
I place my CS4 cd in my pc, go to my C:\ folder area and find my CS4 in DVD RW Drive (D:) automatically. Then I dble click PS setup but, instead of opening the page gets transparent? Or I get install with Adobe setup.exe. But, it doesn't work. I checked Tweak 7 and it said Adobe is awaiting input or hung? Then asks force termination? yes or no. I've tried downloading CS4 trials but, there are non. Only CS5 trials out there.... I'm at a loss. I've tried Everything. Does anyone know what I can do?
Thank-you

Try using your default Aero skin when you install. Also, try right clicking on the install.exe file and choose 'run as administrator'.

If any of the above don't work look for the Photoshop.exe. I believe this is what installs it with cs4 and 5.

Try copying it to your desktop and run it from there.

OK, Doc, I don't see an install. exe file. I have a blue square with PS written on it. It is supposed to be the install.exe. But, instead the page turns transparent about 5 seconds into it. Like a disconnect? I have (cannot copy_paste) 17 items on the Ps disc.
1 is Adobe CS4,I click it and 8 items pop up, 1_ the blue square PS setup application. I right clicked and used admin rights. Still just faded? Previously I have shut off my firewall in case it was my security. But, no change. I have also tried WinBootstrapper. 1 of the files. Windows installler? I tells me to use Adobe setup.exe. ? I just installed window 7 Aero. It didn't work. I tried to admin open and the page went transparent again.
OK, DaveBax, I haven't seen that anywhere... Can I google it? I only saw the Adobe name... I will look more.
Thank-you both for your time.

I believe WindowBlinds is causing the issue.
Open Windowblinds and set it to the original windows desktop. That will basically unload Windowblinds. Once it's unloaded, you should be able to install it.

That's why I said to use Aero, CG1.
Then Right click on the blue setup application. Run it as "Administrator".

Hi CarGuy1, using the first windowblind now and noper, that didn't do it. It did exactly the same thing again. Thank-you
I go to Autoplay, a blue/grey rectangle pops up with an Install Adobe Photoshop CS4 button. I press tha and a box open for permission to open. I click yes. It seems to want to start but still goes transparent.....
RedneckDude, I installed a PS setup-shortcut on my desktop bjt, it also did the same thing. Thanks
Could it be going somewhere else? On a couple of occasions, I was told there wasn't enough space. But, I believe I have more than enough.?

Hi Doc, I actually have your Aero7 window theme on, And CarGuy1's first windowblind. As I said, the same results..... I have 2 cd's. One is tutorial.
The other is installation. I can see it on my D Drive. When I click on something, nothing really opens up. I just opens up to some more things to do the same.... Don't know if that helps....

Are you sure the files on the cd are not corrupted?
If you can't install from that cd, is it possible that CS4 has a protection built in to prevent installation from a cd not from Adobe?
IROKONESS.... if you are in the W7 default aero skin, right click on the windowblinds icon in your systray and close it (exit windowblinds).
Then try the Administrator installation I advised above.

You could perform a clean boot and try installing.
To perform a clean boot, follow these directions from Microsoft.

Irokoness, All the above information above are things that at least one of them should work. I had your problem once and finally got it to install. What I did was copy the entire contents of the disc to a folder on my computer. Go where ever you keep your folders and make a new one called PSsc4 or whatever you want to name it. Then copy the contents of the entir CD to it. Now you can take the CD out and go to your folder. Somewhere in there you have to see, autorun.exe - photoshop.exe - setup.exe - install.exe. Double click it and it should install PS. If you don't see any of these then it's a no go for sure. I also don't know if it's an orginal PS disc or PS contents copied to a regular disc. If it's a regular disc then something is missing from it which can happen sometimes when copy from an orginal. I don't have any other ideas so this is my last shot. If by chance you aren't sure how to copy the disc to a folder on your computer email me.

Also, you updated your video drivers lately?
ATI released 11.1 a couple weeks ago. They fixed some graphical issues I was having with some Adobe products on the earlier drivers.

I just tried to open CS4 Cleanupscript and it also stopped before opening. This is after I give my security permission to open. Could it be my Norton 360??
Just saw your suggestions and will apply them directly. Thank-you.

Hi CarGuy1, well, installed the upgrade and did a clean boot. (very cool) But, still no CS4. I'm sorta glad it's not me being a total idiot by missing one little thing... sorta.
Philly0381, I have tried the security, shut if off, again. No go. Thanks though.
I still have to try to download folder. Your suggestion DaveBax. I will be PM ing you.
I want to say that I have to go to the city for a few hours. Will be back after supper. 7:00 pmish.
Thank-you all

Here's a possible cause. When I had PS 7 loaded then installed a trial of CS5 there was a problem after the trial ran out. PS7 no longer worked because the uninstaller I used took out files relevant to PS 7. I thought the uninstall took out all the files when it really didn't so I tried reinstalling PS7 and that didn't work. I had to go in and delete all those remaining files then do a clean install of PS7. Could be there are leftover files if she was using an older version of PS. If so she'll have to go in and delete them. Could that be causing it?

I loaded the program up so I'm pretty sure the disc is not corrupted, but...
google this: cs4 installation problems

I would try RNDs suggestion of copying the entire DVD to your hard drive in a temp folder and running it from there.
Since there's no reference to if it is a store bought DVD or a backup, copying the files over would rule out any disc issues. If it copies, the files are probably fine. If it errors out, than the CD player could be dirty, a misaligned laser, or a bad DVD burn.

ad notium: disk is good, I had it loaded on my system for a time but I love my PSP7, which is why I offered it out. I had also suggested to find the setup.exe on the CD and double click on that but not sure if that was attempted.
